Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant is a hands-on accounting role responsible for performing a broad range of accounting activities across the business. This position requires someone who is comfortable working at both the transactional and analytical levels—from entering transactions and maintaining accounting records to performing reconciliations, supporting month-end close, analyzing inventory and costs, and preparing financial reporting.

The ideal candidate has well-rounded accounting experience and is comfortable working across accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory and cost accounting, cash management, sales and use tax, and financial reporting. Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Close

  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records.
  • Perform account and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Research and correct accounting discrepancies.
  • Support external audits and tax reporting requirements.

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Maintain accounting records for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory.
  • Perform inventory reconciliations and review inventory valuation and reserves.
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances.
  • Assist with standard cost maintenance and cost accounting activities.
  • Support physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies with Operations and Supply Chain.

Accounts Payable

  • Enter and review vendor invoices and ensure appropriate coding and approvals.
  • Prepare and process vendor payments.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts and research discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate AP records and monitor outstanding liabilities.
  • Assist with vendor setup and maintenance.

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and process customer invoices.
  • Apply customer payments and maintain accurate customer account records.
  • Perform customer account reconciliations and maintain AR aging.
  • Follow up on past-due balances and assist with collections.
  • Research short payments, deductions, unapplied cash, credits, and billing discrepancies.

Cash & Treasury

  • Record and reconcile daily cash activity.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Monitor cash balances and upcoming cash requirements.
  • Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting.

Sales & Use Tax

  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and reconciliations.
  • Research tax discrepancies and assist with audits or inquiries.
  • Monitor filing requirements and deadlines.

Controls & Process Improvement

  • Follow and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify accounting errors, control gaps, and process inefficiencies.
  • Assist with improving and documenting accounting processes.
  • Work directly with Purchasing, Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and other departments to resolve accounting issues.

Education

·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Experience

·         4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

·         Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, cash management, and financial reporting.

·         Experience with Quickbooks Desktop.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

·         Understanding of manufacturing accounting and cost accounting principles.

·         Experience managing accounts payable, cash management, and sales tax compliance.

·         Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.

·         Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
