Safety Supervisor – Electrical & Line Operations

The Opportunity

An established oil and gas services organization is seeking an experienced Safety Supervisor to provide hands-on HSE leadership across electrical and line-work operations in Southeast New Mexico.

This is a field-focused safety position supporting electricians, line crews, foremen, supervisors, contractors, and other field personnel working in active oil and gas environments. The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for identifying and mitigating hazards, conducting field inspections and safety meetings, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring work is performed in accordance with company, client, OSHA, and applicable electrical safety requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in oil and gas safety combined with electrical construction, utility, or line-work safety experience. This is not a desk-based safety position—the successful candidate will be regularly present in the field and comfortable making decisions in high-risk operating environments.

What You'll Be Doing

Field Safety Leadership

• Provide daily HSE oversight for electrical, utility, and line-work activities.
• Conduct field inspections before and during work to identify hazards and verify appropriate controls are in place.
• Work directly with foremen, supervisors, electricians, line crews, contractors, and other field personnel to reinforce safe work practices.
• Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and work with operations leadership to implement corrective actions.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority whenever conditions present an unacceptable safety risk.
• Promote a proactive safety culture focused on preventing incidents rather than simply responding to them.

Electrical & Line-Work Safety

Provide safety oversight for work involving:

• Electrical power distribution systems
• Overhead and underground electrical lines
• Energized and de-energized systems
• Transformers, switchgear, MCCs, generators, and related equipment
• Temporary power systems
• Electrical testing and maintenance
• Electrical isolation and verification
• Grounding and bonding
• Arc-flash and electrical shock hazards
• Minimum approach distances
• Bucket trucks and aerial lifts
• Pole work and elevated work
• Rigging, crane, and lifting activities
• Excavation and underground utilities

Ensure crews understand and consistently follow applicable electrical safe-work practices, PPE requirements, isolation procedures, and other established controls.

Oil & Gas / Industrial Safety

• Support safe operations within active oil and gas production and industrial environments.
• Monitor hazards associated with H2S, hazardous locations, hot work, fire risks, heavy equipment, and simultaneous operations.
• Verify appropriate controls are implemented for work occurring around operating equipment and other ongoing site activities.
• Support emergency response planning, drills, and response procedures.
• Maintain awareness of changing site conditions and intervene when work conditions create new or unexpected risks.

Safety Programs & Documentation

• Conduct and participate in daily toolbox talks, job safety meetings, and pre-task safety meetings.
• Review and verify JHAs, JSAs, permits, and pre-task plans before and during work activities.
• Ensure proper implementation of Lockout/Tagout and electrical isolation procedures.
• Verify appropriate use of arc-flash PPE, FR clothing, electrical gloves, fall protection, eye/face protection, and task-specific PPE.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, incident documentation, corrective actions, and other required safety records.
• Communicate safety trends, observations, and corrective actions to project and HSE leadership.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action

• Participate in investigations involving incidents, near misses, property damage, environmental events, and other safety occurrences.
• Assist with identifying root causes and developing appropriate corrective actions.
• Follow up on corrective actions to ensure issues are effectively addressed.
• Use field observations and incident trends to identify opportunities for continuous safety improvement.

Contractor & Employee Support

• Verify that subcontractors and other contractors comply with applicable safety requirements.
• Provide safety coaching and mentoring to employees, supervisors, foremen, electricians, and line personnel.
• Build productive relationships with field crews while maintaining the authority and consistency necessary to enforce safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with both operations personnel and management.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 3–5+ years of Safety/HSE experience within oil & gas, electrical construction, utilities, industrial construction, or a closely related environment.
• Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and electrical safety practices.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70E.
• Experience supporting electrical and/or line crews in an industrial or oil & gas environment.
• Experience conducting JHAs/JSAs, safety inspections, audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize hazards and make sound decisions in high-risk field environments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with field crews, supervisors, management, and client representatives.
• Strong documentation and organizational abilities.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work outdoors and regularly access active industrial and construction sites.
• Must be based in or able to reliably work from the Carlsbad or Hobbs, NM area.

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry
• NFPA 70E training
• First Aid / CPR / AED
• H2S training
• Electrical safety training
• Additional industry-specific safety or qualification training

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a field-based position supporting oil and gas electrical and line-work activities throughout the Carlsbad/Hobbs area.

The position requires:

• Regular outdoor work in active oil and gas and industrial environments.
• Travel between local job sites.
• Extended periods walking or working on uneven terrain.
• Work around electrical equipment, heavy equipment, vehicles, and active production operations.
• Frequent use of required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to access elevated work areas when necessary.
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended schedules based on project and operational requirements.
