Job Overview

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking an experienced Data Warehouse Architect to support enterprise clinical data initiatives. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable data warehouse solutions, integrating disparate healthcare data sources, and establishing robust ETL/ELT frameworks to support longitudinal clinical data management.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with healthcare data, enterprise data warehousing, advanced SQL, dimensional modeling, and modern cloud-based data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design conceptual, logical, and physical enterprise data warehouse architectures.
  • Develop scalable dimensional data models using Kimball methodology.
  • Design and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines for healthcare data integration.
  • Identify and map common data elements across multiple clinical and operational source systems.
  • Build data cleansing, transformation, and validation frameworks.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data extraction, integration, and schema requirements.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, lineage, and historical tracking.
  • Optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and overall database performance.
  • Support enterprise reporting, analytics, and longitudinal healthcare data initiatives.
  • Work closely with business users, architects, and development teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Data Warehouse Architecture experience.
  • Strong expertise in conceptual, logical, physical, and dimensional data modeling (Kimball).
  • 7+ years of advanced SQL development and performance tuning.
  • 5+ years designing ETL/ELT architecture and data cleansing frameworks.
  • 5+ years integrating data from disparate enterprise systems.
  • 3+ years working with Clinical or Healthcare data.
  • Experience with EHR/EMR, HL7, FHIR, or Public Health systems.
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, Data Quality, and Master Data Management.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Public Health or Government agency experience
