Job Description: 
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software and firmware for embedded products. This role will work across the software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with embedded software, Linux, and real-time operating systems. Experience with networking, cybersecurity concepts, boot processes, operating system kernels, and Qt is highly desirable. Experience building or customizing Linux distributions with Yocto is also a strong plus.

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug embedded software applications using established engineering practices.
• Translate product and software requirements into practical technical solutions and contribute to software architecture and design decisions.
• Investigate software defects and system issues across development, testing, production, and field environments.
• Participate in technical and design reviews, working with engineering team members and project stakeholders to evaluate solutions and resolve complex issues.
• Develop and execute software testing strategies to verify functionality, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with other engineers on verification activities and participate in peer code and software reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including software designs, requirements, diagrams, test documentation, and other engineering records.
• Work with cross-functional teams to support product development and resolve software-related issues.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians or other team members supporting assigned projects when needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to translate software requirements into effective technical designs and implementations.
• Strong understanding of software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex software and embedded-system issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Familiarity with source control, software configuration management, and related development tools.
• Understanding of embedded software architecture and development methodologies.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Five or more years of professional software engineering experience, preferably involving embedded systems.
• Professional experience with C and/or C++, with additional experience in Python, TypeScript, or similar languages.
• Hands-on experience developing software for Linux and/or real-time operating systems.
• Experience with embedded systems and hardware/software integration.
• Familiarity with graphical user interface frameworks such as Qt.
• Knowledge of networking, cybersecurity, bootloaders, kernels, or other low-level system technologies is preferred.
• Experience with Yocto or other embedded Linux build and customization tools is a plus.
• Experience working in Agile or other iterative software development environments.
