Job Description

Marketing Manager Gloucestershire

Salary: DOE

Are you a hands-on marketer who wants the freedom to actually make a difference?

We're working with a successful independent garden centre that's looking for a Marketing Manager to take ownership of its marketing and help move the business forward.

This is a full-time, site-based role, giving you the opportunity to work closely with the wider team, understand what's happening across the business and turn those opportunities into effective marketing campaigns.

The business already has a very loyal customer base and a strong reputation locally. The opportunity now is to build on that - drive more footfall, reach new audiences and modernise how the business communicates, without losing what has made it successful in the first place.

This isn't a role where you'll spend all day managing agencies or sitting in strategy meetings. They need someone who's happy to come up with the ideas, get stuck into the detail and then look at the numbers afterwards to understand what's actually worked.

What will you be doing?

You'll take ownership of marketing across the business, including:

  • Planning and delivering campaigns around key trading periods, events and promotions.
  • Driving footfall and finding new ways to reach both existing and new customers.
  • Managing the website and e-commerce activity, with a focus on improving traffic, customer journey and conversion.
  • Developing SEO and supporting paid digital activity.
  • Managing social media and creating content that feels genuine to the business.
  • Planning and delivering email marketing campaigns through Mailchimp, including newsletters, promotions and targeted customer communications.
  • Working closely with different departments to understand what needs promoting and where the opportunities are.
  • Using sales, website and customer data to understand what's working and where improvements can be made.
  • Working with external agencies and suppliers where needed.
  • Making sure digital and more traditional marketing activity works together.

What are they looking for?

You don't necessarily need to already be a Marketing Manager.

You could be a strong Senior Marketing Executive, Digital Marketing Executive or Assistant Marketing Manager who's ready to take on more responsibility and have real ownership.

What matters is that you're:

  • Commercially minded and interested in the results behind the marketing.
  • Strong across digital marketing, particularly website, social, email and SEO.
  • Comfortable looking at data and using it to make decisions.
  • Creative enough to come up with ideas, but practical enough to deliver them.
  • Happy working in a broad, hands-on role.
  • Confident working with different people across a business.
  • Someone who will challenge what's already being done and ask how it could be better.

Retail or consumer marketing experience would be useful, but garden centre experience certainly isn't essential. They'd rather find a good marketer with the right commercial mindset and teach them the industry.

You'll be joining an entrepreneurial business that's performing well, has a very experienced team and genuinely gives people the opportunity to influence how things are done.

If you've reached the point where you want more ownership, more variety and the chance to shape the marketing rather than simply deliver someone else's plan, this could be a really interesting next step.
