SC Cleared Cloud Engineer

The company
I'm partnering with a fast-growing technology consultancy that delivers cloud, security and digital transformation programmes for public sector and regulated clients. They're looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer with deep SQL Server and Azure SQL expertise to support complex migration and modernisation work.

The role
This is a hands-on role focused on database platform engineering, migration and optimisation in Microsoft Azure. You'll work alongside Cloud Architects, Engineers and delivery teams to assess existing database estates, plan and deliver migrations, and make sure the platforms you land are secure, reliable and high-performing.

What you'll do

  • Lead database discovery and assessment across existing SQL Server environments, mapping dependencies, integrations and data flows
  • Plan and deliver SQL Server and Azure SQL migrations, covering schema and data migration, validation and reconciliation
  • Troubleshoot and optimise database performance, availability and reliability, including post-migration stabilisation
  • Support database automation and Infrastructure as Code, integrating deployments into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Produce migration plans, risk assessments and technical documentation, and help reduce technical debt

What you'll bring

  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL
  • Proven delivery of complex database migrations into Azure
  • Strong T-SQL skills, including stored procedures, queries and database objects
  • Experience with performance tuning and supporting production database platforms
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills

Nice to have

  • Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database or SQL Server on Azure VMs
  • Terraform or Bicep, and PowerShell or Python for automation
  • Experience in government, defence or other regulated environments
  • Microsoft Azure or SQL Server certifications
