This role manages the Credit Union’s formal compliance program and the administration of complex member accounts.
The position is responsible for ensuring the Credit Union’s policies and procedures comply with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes analyzing new and pending laws that may directly affect current Credit Union practices and developing or revising policies and procedures as needed to maintain compliance.
A key part of the role is ensuring all affected areas of the Credit Union are informed of changing laws, regulations, and procedures so required updates can be implemented within the appropriate time frame.
The position also directs operations associated with fiduciary and complex Credit Union member accounts, including IRAs, Trusts, Estates, Coverdells, Commercial/Business Accounts, and Deceased Accounts.
The overall focus is to ensure regulatory and legal compliance while maintaining the appropriate balance between exceptional member service and effective risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze new and pending laws and regulations that may affect the Credit Union’s operations. Develop, review, and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, and communicate changes and newly adopted procedures to all affected parties.
• Develop and implement formal policies and procedures for Credit Union accounts designated as complex, ensuring that applicable regulations, legal and tax documentation requirements, and best practices for risk mitigation are properly followed.
• Develop and maintain a library of compliance resources and work directly with the Credit Union training department to ensure effective compliance training for staff and volunteers.
• Coordinate projects involving information disclosure and policy changes, ensuring staff are informed of procedures that must be followed. Review forms, disclosures, advertisements, and other materials for regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and present periodic reports to the Board of Directors regarding the Credit Union’s current record of compliance.
• Work with examiners and auditors to ensure compliance issues are appropriately addressed. Monitor corrective action related to any compliance deficiencies identified by examiners and/or auditors.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.
What Success Looks Like
• Maintain a continuous working knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws to ensure the Credit Union’s policies and procedures remain compliant with current laws and regulations.
• Ensure departments, management, and staff are informed of changes affecting compliance within the required time frame established by management.
• Continuously review, establish, and update procedures related to IRAs, Trust Accounts, Deceased Accounts, Estate Accounts, and Business Accounts.
• Develop required compliance training and maintain a library of compliance resources that enables employees to strengthen their knowledge in relevant areas.
• Prepare periodic compliance reports in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
• Keep management informed of key operational issues affecting the Credit Union.
• Maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for members and staff.
• Maintain dependable attendance and be prepared to work scheduled hours.
Experience
- 10+ years of similar or related experience within a credit union or financial services environment.
- Prior leadership experience required, including experience managing and developing staff. This role currently oversees a team of two.
- Credit Union Compliance Officer certification preferred.
Interpersonal Skills
- This role requires extensive interaction with others, often involving personal or sensitive matters. The ability to motivate, influence, coach, and train others is essential.
- Strong relationship building skills are also important, as the position requires interaction with outside organizations and individuals. The ability to foster productive relationships and effectively communicate and influence ideas is a key part of the role.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and effectively communicate compliance requirements to employees, management, and other stakeholders.
This is a hybrid position: 3 days required in Dallas office, 2 days WFH (if desired).
Compensation & Benefits: $110K annual salary plus a competitive, comprehensive benefits package.
