Job Description - Linux Infrastructure / Server Migration Engineer

Day to Day Job Duties:
Own and engineer the Linux compute platform during large-scale server and data center migration initiatives, ensuring platform stability, security, availability, and performance throughout all phases of migration.
Plan, coordinate, and execute end-to-end server migrations from source data centers to target environments, including physical servers, VMware ESXi hosts, and virtual machines.
Manage and migrate VMware ESXi and vSphere environments, including VM provisioning, host configuration, vMotion, Storage vMotion, DRS, HA, and cold migration activities.
Execute physical-to-virtual (P2V), virtual-to-virtual (V2V), and site-to-site migration activities while minimizing business and service disruption.
Configure, troubleshoot, and migrate iSCSI storage environments, including connectivity, multipathing, CHAP authentication, storage-path validation, and performance troubleshooting.
Manage Logical Volume Manager (LVM) configurations during migration activities, including volume-group export and import, logical-volume resizing, snapshots, migration activities, and filesystem-integrity validation.
Develop, maintain, and enhance automation scripts and tooling to streamline migration activities, infrastructure administration, validation, and repeatable operational workflows.
Develop and execute detailed migration runbooks, implementation procedures, rollback plans, validation checklists, and post-migration verification activities.
Collaborate with internal clients, infrastructure teams, application teams, storage teams, network teams, and partner engineering teams to assess migration readiness and resolve technical dependencies.
Troubleshoot complex Linux, virtualization, storage, networking, and application infrastructure issues during migration and post-migration stabilization.
Develop technical solutions and improvements to enhance infrastructure reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Manage and optimize virtualization and containerized infrastructure environments using VMware, OpenShift CNV, Kubernetes, and related technologies.
Contribute to integration and support of modern infrastructure platforms including Kubernetes, OpenShift, and OpenStack.
Participate in the development and implementation of CI/CD pipelines supporting infrastructure automation and deployment activities.
Use Bash, Python, and other scripting technologies to automate infrastructure provisioning, migration, validation, and operational tasks.
Monitor infrastructure performance and system health and implement proactive tuning and optimization as required.
Support networking activities involving TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting.
Ensure infrastructure engineering and migration activities comply with applicable security standards, controls, and organizational requirements.
Participate in change, implementation, validation, and production-support activities associated with infrastructure migration initiatives.
