Job description
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer / Quality Inspector to support dimensional inspection of precision aerospace components and assemblies. This position develops, validates, and executes Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs to verify compliance with engineering drawings, CAD models, customer specifications, and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong CMM programming skills, a thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and experience inspecting machined parts, formed sheet metal, and fabricated assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, troubleshoot, and validate CMM inspection programs using CALYPSO and/or Verisurf software.
- Set up and operate a ZEISS CONTURA CMM, including probe qualification, part alignment, fixture setup, and measurement strategy selection.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements to develop accurate inspection plans.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final dimensional inspections of manufactured components and assemblies.
- Evaluate complex features, profiles, datums, and close-tolerance dimensions against drawing requirements.
- Prepare inspection reports and support First Article Inspection documentation in accordance with customer and AS9102 requirements.
- Verify dimensions using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, surface plates, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Identify and document nonconforming conditions and communicate findings to Quality, Engineering, and Production.
- Work with manufacturing personnel to investigate dimensional discrepancies and support corrective actions.
- Maintain inspection program revision control, measurement records, and traceability.
- Improve inspection efficiency while maintaining measurement accuracy and repeatability.
- Follow established quality procedures, equipment care requirements, and workplace safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience independently programming, setting up, and operating CMM equipment in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with CALYPSO and/or Verisurf programming software.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and practical knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5.
- Ability to develop inspection programs from engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
- Experience selecting datums, establishing alignments, configuring probes, and validating inspection results.
- Proficiency with precision hand measuring instruments and conventional inspection methods.
- Ability to troubleshoot measurement discrepancies and distinguish setup or programming issues from actual part nonconformances.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and ability to manage competing inspection priorities.
- Effective communication and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience programming and operating a ZEISS CONTURA CMM.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience involving machined components, sheet metal fabrication, formed parts, or welded assemblies.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
- Experience with Hexagon portable measuring arms, OGP optical inspection systems, or comparable metrology equipment.
- Technical training in dimensional metrology, manufacturing, machining, or a related discipline.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position supporting precision manufacturing and quality inspection operations. Duties include computer-based programming, hands-on equipment setup, and handling components during inspection.
To Apply
Submit your resume highlighting your CMM programming experience, software proficiency, equipment background, and experience inspecting aerospace or other precision manufactured components.
