The DK publicity department is currently seeking a Publicist with a focus on Children’s and Licensing titles to join the DK U.S. team. The growing list of Children's titles includes picture books, chapter books, middle grade and graphic novels and the robust Licensing publishing program includes LEGO, Disney, Minecraft, Marvel, Star Wars, among others. 

  

The ideal candidate will have experience strategizing on and executing PR campaigns for Children’s and Licensing titles, an established network of national broadcast, print, and online media contacts, and a desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position will report to the Publicity Manager of DK U.S.  

  

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Plans and executes publicity campaigns for multiple authors, creators, and brands. 
  • Provides high-touch author care and attentive communication with authors, agents, and internal publishing team.  
  • Develops, researches, and maintains strong relationships with national, online, podcast, and local media contacts. 
  • Coordinates author events and appearances with bookstores, schools and libraries, festivals, and conventions including author travel. 
  • Writes creative and impactful press materials and pitches. 
  • Collaborates on campaigns with DK US and DK UK Children’s and Library Marketing, Publicity, Sales and Editorial colleagues.  
  • Attends Children’s, Library, and Licensing conventions.  
  • Preps authors for media interviews and events. 
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant PR experience in children’s book publishing 
  • Strong verbal and written communication  
  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines  
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts, notably in the Children’s space  
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously  
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues  
  • Experience and comfort presenting in front of groups including internal meetings 
  • A motivated self-starter, strategic thinker, and team player 
  • Ability to travel to festivals and conventions 1-2 times per year
  • Proficiency with Muck Rack, Google Suite, and Podchaser a plus

The salary for this position is $66,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.   

 

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
