Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive DevOps Engineer (SFIA Level 4) to support and maintain data platform infrastructure on Azure for a public sector client. You'll work with a reasonable degree of autonomy, contributing to infrastructure automation, pipeline reliability, and platform improvements, while collaborating closely with senior engineers, data engineers, and the wider delivery team.
Key Responsibilities

Support the build, deployment, and maintenance of infrastructure for Azure-based data platforms

Work with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake to support data pipeline infrastructure and platform reliability
-
Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
-
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, supporting automated build, test, and deployment workflows
-
Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to ensure infrastructure meets platform and data requirements
-
Support the implementation and maintenance of monitoring, alerting, and observability across the data platform
-
Identify, investigate, and help resolve infrastructure and pipeline issues
-
Follow and support security standards, change management, and release governance processes
-
Participate in sprint planning, refinement, and other agile ceremonies
-
Support continuous improvement of automation, platform reliability, and DevOps practices
-
Take a proactive approach to identifying risks, technical debt, and opportunities for improvement, escalating to senior engineers where appropriate
Required Skills & Experience

Experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Data Infrastructure Engineering role

Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services

Experience with Azure Data Factory

Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics

Experience with Azure Data Lake

Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code
-
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
-
A proactive, self-motivated approach, comfortable identifying issues and improvements rather than waiting to be directed

Comfortable working within established processes and escalating appropriately, while developing toward greater independent ownership
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
