Senior AI Engineer / Rapidly Growing / Hybrid in Chicago / Energy Sector

A rapidly growing, technology-driven company in Chicago is hiring a full-time AI Engineer to build and scale applied AI systems across the business. This organization operates in the energy space and is combining modern software engineering with AI, including LLMs, backend services, and cloud platforms, to automate workflows and improve how teams operate day to day.

This role is ideal for an engineer who wants to go beyond implementing AI features and instead own how AI is applied across real business problems. The team is looking for someone who can identify high-impact opportunities, design the right solution, and build systems that people actually use. You will have the chance to shape AI direction early, work closely with stakeholders across the company, and gain meaningful ownership in a fast-moving, collaborative environment with high standards but strong support.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong Software Engineering background with experience building scalable backend systems
• Experience reasoning through business problems end-to-end and building solutions adopted by users
• Experience identifying high-value AI opportunities and determining where AI will have the biggest impact
• Demonstrated experience staying current with the latest models, architecture, frameworks, and techniques, and can help guide the team on which approaches are worth adopting
• Strong understanding of how to select the appropriate AI approach for a given problem instead for defaulting to familiar tools or techniques
• Experience working closely with product and business stakeholders to translate customer needs into effective AI solutions.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience building agentic systems or workflows that take actions across multiple services
• Familiarity with modern AI tooling such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar
