Production Quality Engineer

Do you have a strong background in welding and fabrication inspection, with experience leading a quality team?

Verteer Consulting is recruiting a Production Quality Engineer for a manufacturing business in Oldham. You will lead seven Quality Inspectors and take responsibility for quality across production, combining hands-on inspection with investigations, process improvements and customer liaison.

This is a visible role within the factory. At least half your time will be spent on the shop floor, supporting inspectors and working with production colleagues to maintain standards and prevent recurring defects.

The role

• Lead and support seven Quality Inspectors, setting priorities and maintaining consistent inspection practices.
• Oversee quality checks throughout cutting, threading, laser cutting, welding and post-coating operations.
• Inspect components against fabrication drawings, specified dimensions, tolerances and acceptance criteria.
• Strengthen product traceability and maintain accurate inspection and test records.
• Investigate weld defects, leaks and other non-conformances, identify root causes and follow corrective actions through.
• Own customer complaint investigations and provide clear written reports explaining findings and actions taken.
• Support pressure testing and non-destructive testing activities.
• Carry out process audits and work with production teams to improve quality at source.

What you'll bring

• Substantial quality or inspection experience within a welding and fabrication manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing or supervising quality inspectors.
• CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification.
• Confidence reading fabrication drawings and checking dimensions and tolerances.
• Practical experience using measurement equipment, including verniers, micrometers, thread gauges and weld gauges.
• Pressure testing experience and training in non-destructive testing.
• Root-cause investigation skills, including 5 Whys, and familiarity with structured corrective-action methods such as 8D.
• Clear written communication and the confidence to discuss technical findings with customers and colleagues.
• A welding or pipefitting trade background, layered process audit experience and an IOSH qualification would be advantageous.
