The Cyber Resilience and Cross Domain Engineering department works across MITRE's cyber resilience portfolio spans resilient systems engineering, Zero Trust, mission engineering, enterprise security architecture, cross domain engineering, mission assurance, cyber survivability, secure cloud architectures, and AI-enabled cyber defense.

The department integrates resilience engineering principles across complex systems to enable sponsors to sustain mission effectiveness despite cyber-attacks, operational disruption, and rapidly evolving threat environments. Cyber Resiliency and Integration for the Space Enterprise

  • Improving USSF cyber resilient enterprise and Defensive Cyber Warfare (DCW) capabilities to achieve and maintain space superiority, enhanced battlespace awareness and mission assurance through space, ground and communication link assets.

Technical Objectives:

  • Conduct Cyber Resiliency Analysis of Joint Force designs to support combat operations conducted in cyberspace through fires, movement, and maneuver to control the space domain and maintain decision advantage in contested environments
  • Develop Enterprise Cyber Resilient Architectures and that support Zero Trust maturity and C2 mission optimization.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with US Government space sponsors to apply today's cybersecurity and resiliency technologies to maximize their security
  • Provide a technical framework for identifying seams across identity, engineering, suppliers, cloud services, shared data, AI workflows, remote sites, infrastructure, and recovery dependencies
  • Research emerging cybersecurity capabilities for evaluation and inclusion into our sponsors security architectures both current and future
  • Define requirements for operational systems to be fielded by our sponsors to ensure those systems' cyber resiliency from day one
  • Provide direct technical leadership, support, and oversight for deploying operational solutions that provide enhanced cybersecurity and cyber resiliency to our sponsors' most critical systems
  • Lead teams to develop and demonstrate prototypes for key cybersecurity solutions (including zero-trust security models, automated response tools, active defense, and more)
  • Work with government sponsors to identify and define their critical cyber resiliency and cybersecurity challenges and mitigations
  • Develop data-driven technical products to outline recommended solutions in a clear and concise manner
  • Possess motivation to expand knowledge and willingness to take risks to explore new opportunities
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging cyber threats trends and advanced mitigation strategies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a master's degree or 5 years and a PhD or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience using cybersecurity frameworks or standards (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-82, NIST 800-160 v2, ISA/IEC 62443, DoD RMF, FISMA) in risk assessment, space systems engineering, threat driven acquisitions or operations.
  • Ability to propose innovative concepts and solutions and lead teams to instantiate those concepts.
  • Ability to influence sponsor decisions, lead discussions, collaborate across different teams and organizations, and brief technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
  • This position has an on-site requirement at MITRE or government locations of 3-4 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying threat-driven cyber resilient solutions for space systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with the following frameworks MITRE's Applied Cyber Resiliency Engineering (ACRE), MITRE ATT&CK for space systems. Aerospace's SPARTA and JHU/APL's HAT TRICK
  • Knowledge of space systems security, cyber engineering and cyber space reference architectures challenges unique to that domain.
  • Familiarity with Modular Open System Approaches (MOSA) for Space Systems
  • Familiarity with Defensive Cyber Warfare (DCW) Concepts, Mission Threads and applied AI technologies for space.
  • Knowledge and experience developing Cyber resilient performance requirements and metrics for space systems
  • Working knowledge of applying Zero Trust concepts and capabilities to space systems
  • Experience working directly with space system owners, operators, and engineers.
  • History of building trusted relationships with demanding customers or leaders.
  • Experience delivering high quality valued products to sponsors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, discretion, and tact
  • Experience leading high-performance teams across varied organizations and domains. This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
