We are looking to connect with experienced professionals who can support our Clinical Studies of Oral Care and Personal Care Products on a flexible basis.  Flexibility and the ability to work around evolving study schedules are important. 

Purpose of the post: 

Eurofins Alba is seeking a Consultant Dentist to support clinical studies of oral care, personal care and cosmetic products at our clinical testing facility in Edinburgh.

This consultant position allows dental professionals to contribute their clinical expertise while supporting Eurofins Alba’s work in delivering high-quality, ethical and scientifically robust consumer and clinical studies.

The Consultant Dentist will support studies involving oral care product assessment, including areas such as tooth whitening, dental plaque, gingivitis, calculus, stain removal, hypersensitivity and oral tolerance evaluations. Most study coordination, volunteer management, documentation and operational activities will be managed by the experienced Eurofins Alba laboratory and clinical operations team.

• Acting as the nominated Principal Investigator, Medical Investigator or Dental Investigator, where required by the study design, sponsor requirements or regulatory expectations, including appropriate study oversight, adverse event review, participant safety considerations and approval/signature of study documents where applicable.
• Reviewing study protocols, amendments and relevant study documentation for oral care and cosmetic clinical studies.
• Reviewing, approving and signing study reports or documentation where professional dental oversight is required, and "approval" claims will be made.
• Where required for study conduct and participant safety, providing appropriate clinical/dental input regarding the availability, prescribing, authorisation, administration or oversight of prescription-only medicines and emergency medications, including anaphylaxis arrangements. This must be undertaken only where within the consultant’s professional scope of practice, legal authority, training and agreed study/site procedures, including any applicable requirements for controlled drugs.
• Conducting or overseeing protocol-specified dental and oral evaluations at agreed study timepoints.
• Supporting assessment of oral care parameters such as plaque, gingival condition, stain, calculus, whitening, hypersensitivity and oral tolerance, where relevant to the study design.
• Advising on dental suitability, oral health considerations and participant-related dental observations.
• Recording clinical observations and assessment outcomes accurately, clearly and in accordance with study requirements.
• Supporting the review and management of deviations, adverse events or oral health-related findings, where required.
• Providing expert consultancy on equipment, room layout and study procedures, particularly given increasing requirements relating to decontamination and clinical environments.
• Providing advice on appropriate dental instruments, equipment and any requirements associated with the dental chair or study conduction area.
• Maintain current professional competence, GDC registration, training and knowledge within dentistry and oral health assessment, including relevant oral care study requirements, participant safety.
• Working with the Eurofins Alba clinical team to ensure studies are conducted to appropriate ethical, quality and safety standards.
• Undertaking any other consultant duties commensurate with the nature and responsibility of the role as reasonably required

• Qualified dentist registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
• Strong knowledge of dental and oral health assessment principles.
• Ability and authority, where required, to prescribe or authorise relevant emergency medication in accordance with professional registration, legal requirements and site procedures.
• Understanding of participant safety, confidentiality and ethical clinical practice.
• Ability to document clinical observations clearly and accurately.
• Experience carrying out dental examinations and oral health assessments.
• Ability to assess oral care parameters such as plaque, stain, gingival condition, calculus, whitening, hypersensitivity and oral tolerance.
• Strong clinical observation and documentation skills.
• Ability to review study documentation and provide relevant clinical input.
• Ability to communicate findings clearly to the clinical study team.
• Professional, ethical and participant-focused approach.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Eurofins Alba clinical and laboratory teams.
• Flexible and reliable approach to study scheduling and on-site attendance.
• Ability to work independently while following agreed study procedures.
• Current or recent experience practising as a dentist
• Experience working with patients, participants or volunteers in a professional clinical setting
