Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to join our team in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in IBM Mainframe environments, application development, maintenance, troubleshooting, and production support.

The candidate will work closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, and other developers to develop, enhance, maintain, and support enterprise-level mainframe applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications.
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain programs using COBOL and JCL.
• Work with DB2 databases and SQL for application development and data processing.
• Perform application debugging, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Develop and execute unit and integration testing.
• Analyze and resolve application defects and production issues.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards.
• Work with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Perform impact analysis for application changes and enhancements.
• Prepare technical documentation and maintain application-related documentation.
• Support application releases, deployments, and migration activities.
• Monitor application performance and assist with root-cause analysis of technical issues.

Required Skills

• Strong experience in IBM Mainframe development.
• Hands-on experience with COBOL.
• Strong knowledge of JCL.
• Experience working with DB2 and SQL.
• Experience with mainframe batch processing and job scheduling.
• Knowledge of mainframe application development and production support.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Ability to analyze requirements and develop technical solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with CICS.
• Experience with VSAM.
• Experience with IMS.
• Knowledge of REXX or other mainframe utilities.
• Experience with Endevor, Changeman, or similar source/code management tools.
• Experience with CA7, Control-M, or other job scheduling tools.
• Experience working in large enterprise environments.
• Exposure to modernization or integration of legacy mainframe applications with distributed/cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong hands-on Mainframe development experience.
• Ability to work onsite in Austin, TX for the duration of the engagement.
