Job Description

Immediate need for a talented Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Laser & Ultrasonic Welding. This is a 06+ Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in San Diego, CA (Hybrid). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Pay Range: $106 - $116/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies and equipment installation.
  • Lead the qualification and validation of laser and ultrasonic welding equipment and processes (IQ/OQ/PQ) in compliance with FDA and ISO regulations.
  • Develop and execute process validation studies, including weld strength characterization and hermeticity testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize weld yield, cycle time, and process capability.
  • Troubleshoot complex welding failures, implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain process controls, monitoring strategies, and SPC programs

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, specifically in laser and ultrasonic welding.
  • Bachelor s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in laser welding process design, development, and optimization.
  • Proficiency with industry-leading laser/ultrasonic welding systems (e.g., Coherent, IPG Photonics, TRUMPF, Branson).
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) integration with welding equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple laser/ultrasonic welding modalities (e.g., Nd:YAG, fiber laser, standard ultrasonic).
  • Experience with alternative plastic joining technologies and hermetic sealing validation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Minitab, Document Management Systems, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SAP.
