Job Description

Job Title: Backend Engineer with Kafka

Location: Irving, TX / Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Job Type: Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with Kafka to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and event-driven systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in backend development, Apache Kafka, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and relational or NoSQL databases. This role involves building high-performance microservices, integrating messaging platforms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.

  • Build and support event-driven applications using Apache Kafka.

  • Develop microservices and backend components using Java or Python.

  • Design and optimize Kafka producers, consumers, topics, and streaming pipelines.

  • Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with enterprise applications.

  • Write and optimize SQL queries and database operations.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance.

  • Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.

  • Collaborate with DevOps, QA, Product, and Architecture teams.

  • Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of backend development experience.

  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka.

  • Experience developing REST APIs and Microservices.

  • Strong programming experience in Java or Python.

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.

  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks.

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).

  • Experience with Kafka Streams or Apache Flink is a plus.
