Job Title: Java Backend Developer GraphQL Platform

Location: West Chester, PA (Oniste)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer with strong expertise in GraphQL and REST API development to build, enhance, and maintain a scalable middleware platform. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing production-grade APIs, building microservices, improving CI/CD automation, and deploying cloud-based services.

The role involves working with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain platform capabilities while ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
Build, enhance, and maintain GraphQL services, subgraphs, REST APIs, and supporting infrastructure.
Develop and integrate microservices using Java and related backend technologies.
Improve automation, developer tooling, onboarding processes, and technical documentation.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
Participate in end-to-end software delivery, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and documentation.
Monitor production services, troubleshoot distributed-system issues, and perform root-cause analysis.
Participate in on-call rotations and incident response activities.
Deploy and maintain backend services on AWS or other major cloud platforms.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong programming experience in Java and backend application development.
Hands-on experience designing and developing GraphQL and/or REST APIs.
Experience building, scaling, and operating APIs in production environments.
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
Practical experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
Experience with monitoring, observability, logging, and production troubleshooting.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to deliver projects end-to-end, from design through deployment and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GraphQL subgraphs and federated GraphQL architectures.
Familiarity with Apollo Federation or similar GraphQL technologies.
Experience improving developer productivity through automation and tooling.
Knowledge of cloud-native application deployment and service reliability practices.
Experience supporting highly available, scalable backend platforms.
Familiarity with infrastructure automation and modern DevOps practices.
