Job description

We are now seeking an experienced, commercially minded resilience management expert who can help clients anticipate, withstand and recover from complex disruptions while also building trusted, long-term client relationships. As the Director you will combine deep expertise in resilience, crisis, business continuity and risk management with the ability to manage existing accounts, and identify new opportunities to sell, originate and grow work in the German market. This role requires an individual with strong social skills, executive presence, a “refuse to lose” attitude, and the confidence to advise boards and senior executives, present ideas in a compelling way and translate complex thinking into clear, persuasive and structured client communications.

Business Development

  • Proactively manage accounts, identify prospects, build senior client relationships and generate new business opportunities for Control Risks, with a primary focus on corporate and government accounts throughout Germany.
  • Work closely with your advisory & risk consulting team, account managers, Service Line leaders and the Managing Director in a consultative sales capacity, entering client conversations as a subject matter expert, shaping opportunities and helping to close new work.
  • Own and deepen relationships with new and existing clients, demonstrating commercial persistence, high social intelligence and a “refuse to lose” approach to winning and retaining work.
  • Own and manage a qualified sales pipeline from prospecting and qualification through scoping, proposal development, negotiation and close, with clear accountability for converting opportunities into profitable work.
  • Develop targeted account plans by identifying the right accounts for Control Risks, prioritising growth accounts of relevant size and potential, mapping decision-makers and buyer groups, and pursuing cross-selling opportunities across service lines.
  • Author thought leadership on relevant topics, present at industry and network events, and help build both the Control Risks and personal brands.

Client Delivery

  • Advise clients on complex resilience management, security, crisis, business continuity and enterprise risk challenges, developing practical, sustainable approaches that can be understood and acted on by senior decision-makers.
  • Act as a senior project manager and trusted client adviser for Control Risks’ resilience and risk consulting projects, including assessing, designing, implementing and improving corporate security, resilience and risk management programmes, acting as the primary client contact and managing multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Provide clients with expert support and insights on risk strategy, organizational structures, Enterprise Risk, Business Continuity, Crisis, Security, Cyber Risk, Digital Risk or Intelligence Management.
  • Engage credibly with boards, executive committees and senior leadership teams, ensuring that business priorities are reflected in resilience and risk solutions and that recommendations are presented clearly, confidently and persuasively.
  • Collaboratively scope complex and multidimensional resilience projects with clients, using strong relationship-building and social skills to bring in diverse Control Risks teams and position the firm effectively for follow-on work
  • Own the full client delivery lifecycle from diagnostic assessment and solution design through implementation, stakeholder management, quality assurance and executive-level presentation of outcomes.
  • Use delivery work to identify client priorities, unmet needs and follow-on opportunities.
  • Manage engagement resourcing, budgets, margins and invoicing.

Essential

  • Significant work experience in a consulting firm.
  • Direct, hands-on experience in selling and scoping consulting projects, including personally leading sales conversations, shaping client needs into project opportunities and converting those opportunities into won work
  • Established network in the relevant industry and market, with a degree of external recognition or profile that enables credible senior-level client engagement and supports business development.
  • Knowledge of best practices in resilience management, risk and security strategy, crisis preparedness, business continuity, organisational structures and executive decision-making under pressure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in resilience management, including risk and resilience programme development, security and crisis management, business continuity and organisational resilience optimisation.
  • Strong understanding of cyber and digital risks and how they intersect with resilience management, crisis preparedness, business continuity and senior-level risk decision-making.
  • Knowledge of data-driven approaches and understanding the impact of AI on resilience
  • Experience advising boards, executive committees and senior executives, including presenting complex recommendations in a compelling and commercially relevant way.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to structure, visualise and communicate strategic thinking clearly and persuasively.
  • Business-level proficiency in German and English language.

Preferred

  • Experience in multiple industries and client operating environments
  • Ability to travel 50+% of the time and on short notice
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including strong social skills and the ability to build trust quickly with senior clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Ownership, accountability and commercial resilience to drive success both within the team and across Control Risks.
  • The ability to multi-task and balance competing requirements, including client-facing, business development related, and internal matters
  • Committed, enthusiastic and commercially driven, with a “refuse to lose” attitude and a proactive approach to winning client confidence and new work.
  • A high level of integrity, loyalty and discretion
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Executive presence, board-level confidence and the ability to present ideas and recommendations in a compelling, visually clear and persuasive way.
  • Control Risks offers a competitively positioned compensation and benefits package that is transparent and summarised in the full job offer.
  • We operate a discretionary global bonus scheme that incentivises, and rewards individuals based on company and individual performance.
  • Control Risks supports hybrid working arrangements, wherever possible, that emphasise the value of in-person time together - in the office and with our clients - while continuing to support flexible and remote working.
  • As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds to apply and join us and are fully committed to equal treatment, free from discrimination, of all candidates throughout our recruitment process.

If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made in order to participate fully in the interview process, please let us know and we will be happy to accommodate your needs.
