Transportation and Trade Compliance Manager

The targeted hiring range for this full-time position is $76,600-$103,400 depending on qualifications; however, the expanded salary range provides opportunities for advancement. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and job location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, competencies, experience, and relevant education, training or a combination of these things and market demand. This role follows a hybrid work model, offering flexibility to work remotely while coming together in the office in Red Wing, MN on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for collaboration. There may also be occasional in-person “Moments that Matter” and key business needs throughout the year that require additional days in the office. Candidates should live within commuting distance of Red Wing, MN at the time of hire. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:  

Manage domestic and international transportation operations and trade compliance activities for finished goods and raw materials. Responsible for Parcel, LTL, Truckload, Ocean, and Air transportation, as well as import/export compliance, FTZ operations, CTPAT certification, trade agreements, carrier management, transportation strategy, and logistics network optimization.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. Customs, Department of Commerce, Federal Trade Commission, and international trade regulations for operations across the United States, Netherlands, Japan, and Middle East. 

• Manage global import and export compliance activities, ensuring accurate shipment documentation, customs entries, and adherence to regulatory requirements for both FTZ and non-FTZ shipments. 

• Maintain and audit Harmonized System (HS) classifications, monitor changes to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), and resolve commodity classification and country-of-origin issues. 

• Partner with Chambers of Commerce, foreign embassies, and customs authorities to secure required export documentation, support product clearance, and identify tariff optimization opportunities. 

• Lead strategic relationships with Parcel, LTL, Truckload, Ocean, Air Freight carriers, customs brokers, and 3PLs.   

• Analyze transportation and logistics networks to identify cost-effective, efficient, and compliant methods for global product movement. 

• Manage trade agreement programs, including USMCA and CAFTA-DR, ensuring compliance and maximizing duty savings and business benefits. 

• Serve as the primary liaison between Red Wing Shoe Company and global distribution centers, providing expertise and guidance on transportation, customs, and trade compliance matters. 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, drive operational efficiencies, standardize business practices, and support organizational growth initiatives. 

• Develop and present data-driven analyses and recommendations to improve logistics performance, trade compliance, customer satisfaction, and overall supply chain effectiveness while providing both tactical and strategic support to international business operations. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and five to seven years related experience/training;  

• or equivalent combination education and experience. Five years’ experience in international business preferred. 

• Must have at least three years of experience working with government regulations.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

• Experience in Import, Export, ocean shipping, customs clearance requirements and FTZ software systems  

• Knowledge of Incoterms  

• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and multi-cultural viewpoints.  

• Must have general office skills including utilization of office equipment. PC skills are required, including above average skills with the following applications: Windows, MSWord, and Excel.
