Senior Software Developer Lead - Mission Critical Systems Location: Chantilly, VA or Seal Beach, CA | Contract | Apex Systems About the Role Join Apex Systems as a Senior Software Developer Lead, where you will guide a talented team working on advanced Mission Management and Mission Planning solutions. You'll spearhead full lifecycle software development using Java, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful, high-security projects for critical stakeholders. Responsibilities - Lead and oversee software design, coding, testing (unit/integration/functional/system), and delivery to meet customer requirements and acceptance criteria - Partner with stakeholders to translate system-level requirements into actionable software specifications and robust models - Conduct and drive risk analyses, identify system issues, and proactively implement mitigation strategies throughout the software lifecycle - Facilitate and lead code reviews ensuring alignment with standards and project requirements - Monitor, review, and manage test completion, verification, and efficient resolution of software issues - Track product and process status to ensure alignment with project plans and industry standards - Mentor team members and foster knowledge-sharing to cultivate technical growth Required Skills and Experience - At least 5 years of experience in Computer Science fundamentals, object-oriented design, and software patterns - Expert-level proficiency in Java, C++, or Python for full stack development - Demonstrated leadership in software projects or teams through the entire development lifecycle - Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Top-Secret U.S. Security Clearance with SCI eligibility and successfully complete a CI Polygraph post-hire Preferred Skills - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field - Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JS frameworks (REACT, Open Layers), Spring Framework, Hibernate, REST/Open API - Familiarity with Agile or SAFe methodologies including User Stories, Sprints, and Release Planning - Hands-on experience with TDD, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI - Advanced knowledge of middleware technologies such as JMS, WebLogic; dependency management tools (Maven, Gradle, Git) - Strong background in RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases - Experience developing or supporting space-based or ground-based systems Benefits - High-impact projects with mission-driven purpose - Collaborative, mentoring-focused work culture - Professional growth and leadership opportunities - Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and secure environments How to Apply Ready to make a difference?
