Cloud Operations Azure Engineer - SC Cleared

We are looking for an experienced SC Cleared Cloud Operations Azure Engineer to support a secure, highly regulated UK technology environment.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working close to the technology - building, configuring, operating and improving Azure environments while maintaining strong security, governance and operational standards.

The environment is continuing to evolve across cloud, automation, data and emerging technologies, so this is an opportunity to work on a modern Azure estate where security, resilience and operational discipline really matter.

What you'll be doing

• Test and validate vendor updates and security patches for Azure-hosted Servers before deployment.
• Deploy approved updates and patches across Azure server environments in line with agreed schedules.
• Monitor patching activity and investigate, troubleshoot and remediate deployment issues.
• Configure and maintain Azure Update Manager, including adjusting update frequency where required.
• Build, configure and operate Azure cloud environments and services in accordance with approved designs and security controls.
• Configure Azure subscriptions, policies, RBAC, networking, logging and tagging.
• Provision and manage Azure compute, storage and platform services.
• Use Infrastructure as Code to automate infrastructure deployment and configuration.
• Develop and maintain automation using technologies such as Terraform, Bicep or ARM, alongside PowerShell and/or Python.
• Support CI/CD and deployment automation using tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, backup and disaster recovery configurations.
• Support cloud migrations, deployments, cutovers and service transitions.
• Investigate and resolve cloud infrastructure and deployment issues.
• Work within established incident, change and problem management processes.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational handover information.
• Work closely with architecture, security and platform teams to identify vulnerabilities, resolve issues and continuously improve cloud standards.
• Provide appropriate evidence of operational and security controls, including logging, backup and configuration requirements.

Essential experience

• Active SC Clearance prior to start
• Strong recent hands-on experience engineering and operating Microsoft Azure environments in an enterprise setting.
• Practical experience across Azure services such as:
  • VNets
  • NSGs
  • Compute
  • Storage
  • Azure platform services
• Experience with Azure Update Manager/Azure patch management or equivalent enterprise Azure patching processes.
• Strong understanding of Azure security and governance, including Entra ID/Azure AD, RBAC, Azure Policy and logging.
• Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience using one or more of:
  • Terraform
  • Bicep
  • ARM
• Strong Scripting capability using PowerShell and/or Python.
• Experience with cloud monitoring, troubleshooting and remediation.
• Experience working within structured incident, change and problem management processes.
• Experience working in enterprise, regulated, public-sector or similarly security-conscious environments.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Desirable

• Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate or equivalent experience.
• ITIL Foundation or practical ITIL-based service management experience.
• Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with CI/CD and deployment automation.
• Experience implementing Azure landing zones or subscription-level configuration.
• Experience with Azure security tooling and vulnerability remediation.
• Experience supporting cloud migrations or service transitions.
• Exposure to secure environments supporting data, analytics or AI-enabled services.
• Previous experience working within government, financial services, regulated industries or other highly controlled environments.
