Process Project Engineer
Position Summary
The Process Project Engineer is responsible for managing capital projects and process improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This position leads projects through the full lifecycle, including concept development, engineering design, procurement, installation, commissioning, validation, and production handoff. The role partners with operations, quality, maintenance, engineering, and external suppliers to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective process solutions that support business growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Project Management
  • Lead capital engineering projects from project conception through implementation and operational handoff.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage project execution to ensure objectives are achieved safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Track project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
Process Engineering & Technical Design
  • Design and specify process equipment, including tanks, pumps, valves, piping systems, heat exchangers, and associated process infrastructure.
  • Develop technical specifications and equipment requirements based on operational and business needs.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for increased efficiency, reliability, and capacity.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with industry standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to support project execution and ongoing plant performance.
  • Facilitate project meetings and coordinate activities among multiple stakeholders.
  • Support production continuity while implementing process improvements and new equipment installations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to plant teams throughout project execution.
Capacity Planning & Process Optimization
  • Evaluate current manufacturing capabilities and identify future capacity requirements.
  • Analyze equipment performance and process constraints to recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Support long-term operational planning through data-driven engineering assessments.
  • Develop solutions that improve throughput, efficiency, reliability, and product quality.
Vendor & Contractor Management
  • Prepare requests for quotation (RFQs), bid packages, and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals and recommend equipment and service providers.
  • Coordinate vendor activities during fabrication, installation, startup, and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure contractors adhere to project requirements, safety standards, and established timelines.
Testing, Commissioning & Validation
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate equipment startup, operational qualification, and system validation efforts.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and training materials for newly installed equipment.
  • Support production ramp-up and ensure resolution of punch-list items.
Financial Management
  • Develop capital expenditure requests and business case justifications.
  • Manage project budgets, purchase orders, expenditure tracking, and forecasting.
  • Monitor actual versus planned spending and provide variance analysis.
  • Manage scope changes through established change control processes.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with safety standards, environmental requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard reviews, and safety planning activities.
  • Promote a strong culture of workplace safety and operational excellence.
  • Support quality and compliance initiatives throughout all project phases.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Process Engineering preferred.
Experience
  • Five or more years of engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing capital projects, equipment installations, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing systems and industrial equipment.
