Fraud Investigator (L1) is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and investigating potentially fraudulent transactions, account activities, and customer behaviors. The role involves performing initial fraud assessments, identifying suspicious patterns, documenting findings, and escalating complex cases to higher investigation levels. The incumbent ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and fraud prevention controls.
Transaction Monitoring & Investigation
• Review alerts generated through fraud monitoring systems.
• Analyze financial transactions for unusual or suspicious activity.
• Investigate potential fraud involving:
o Debit/Credit Cards
o ACH Transactions
o Wire Transfers
o Check Fraud
o Account Takeover
o Identity Theft
o Digital Banking Fraud
• Validate customer activity using available tools and data sources.
Fraud Detection & Analysis
• Identify emerging fraud trends and patterns.
• Perform risk assessments on flagged accounts and transactions.
• Differentiate between genuine customer activity and fraudulent behavior.
• Apply predefined fraud rules, procedures, and controls.
Customer Verification
• Contact customers when necessary to verify suspicious transactions.
• Conduct authentication and identity verification procedures.
• Provide professional customer support while handling fraud-related inquiries.
Case Management
• Document investigation findings accurately in case management systems.
• Maintain detailed records of reviews, actions taken, and outcomes.
• Escalate high-risk or complex fraud cases to L2/L3 investigators or management.
• Meet established productivity and quality standards.
Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with:
o Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
o Anti-Money Laundering (AML) guidelines
o Financial institution policies
o Regulatory requirements
• Support internal audits and compliance reviews as needed.
Essential skills of the position:
• Knowledge of fraud detection tools and case management platforms.
• Experience with transaction monitoring systems
• Understanding of banking products such as Savings, Checking, Credit Cards, Loans, Digital Banking Services
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Exposure to Fraud, AML, KYC, or Financial Crime Operations.
• Experience with banking systems and payment networks.
• Knowledge of NACHA, Visa, Mastercard, and ACH processes.
• Fraud-related certifications are an advantage:
CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)
CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist)
