Job Role:

·       We are hiring a senior software engineer to build and own significant parts of our platform, and to grow into an engineering leadership role as the team and the company scale.

·       This is a hands-on role first. You will be one of our strongest individual contributors, in the codebase every week and shipping production features end to end.

·       The team is small and experienced, so there is real room to take on more scope over time, mentor other engineers, and move into leadership as we grow.

·       You will work across the full stack, own meaningful parts of the architecture from design and architecture through delivery, and help keep the platform reliable inside tightly controlled environments.

·       AI is central to where the product is going.

·       We are looking for an engineer who already works this way: someone who has shipped LLM-powered features to production, who can judge where AI belongs in a product and where it does not, and who knows how to evaluate and constrain it so it is safe to put in front of education and corrections users.

What you’ll do

·       Build across the stack. Ship production features end to end, from the user interface through the API and the data layer.

·       Ship AI features. Help shape how AI shows up in the product, along with the evaluation and guardrails that make it appropriate for education and corrections use.

·       Own work end to end. Take meaningful parts of the platform and own them from design through delivery and ongoing reliability, including how they run across our multi-tenant, per-customer deployments.

·       Solve integration problems. Bring the learning applications and content providers our customers rely on into one coherent experience, including systems that were never designed to be integrated.

·       Grow into leadership. Mentor engineers, help set our engineering standards and code review culture, and grow into an engineering leadership role as we scale.

·       Help scale the product. Contribute to a ground-up product redesign and to scaling the platform as we expand into adult education and workforce development.

What we are looking for

·       6+ or more years building production software, with full-stack range and a record of shipping significant work end to end. You can take an ambiguous problem and drive it to done.

·       A hands-on builder. You write and review code every day and want to keep doing that as your scope and influence grow.

·       Production experience with AI and LLM features, including how you evaluated them and what you changed as a result.

·       Strong TypeScript and JavaScript across the front end and the server side, and solid relational database and API design. Comfortability with Rust, networking, and proxy design.

·       Comfort operating in cloud-native environments, including containers, orchestration, and CI/CD.

·       A strong problem solver. You break down messy, poorly defined problems and find pragmatic solutions.

·       Good with customers and a strong communicator. You are comfortable talking directly to the people who use what we build, and you explain technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike.

·       Product judgment. You think about the learner and the program rather than only then ticket, and you bring ideas about what we should build next.

·       The trajectory to grow into engineering leadership as the team scales, and the communication and judgment to work well in a distributed team that runs on trust rather than process.

·       Genuine investment in the mission. You want your work to expand access to education and economic opportunity for the people we serve.

·       Must live in and have authorization to work in the United States or a US territory.

Nice to have

·       Systems-level work in a compiled language such as Rust or Go, or the appetite to learn one.

·       Experience with browser automation, browser extensions, or network-level software.

·       Experience working closely with an offshore or India-based engineering team.

·       Background in education technology, or in secure or otherwise regulated environments.
