AF Operator to IBM Z System Automation (IzSA) Migration Services

Overview:
Lead the migration of existing IBM Tivoli AF Operator (AF/OPERATOR) automation to IBM Z System Automation (SA z/OS / IzSA) by assessing the current automation environment, converting automation logic, implementing policy-based automation, and ensuring seamless production deployment. IBM withdrew support for AF/OPERATOR and recommends migrating to IBM Z System Automation, with migration guidance and services available through IBM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the existing AF Operator automation environment and develop a migration strategy.
  • Analyze and document AF Operator rules, automation tables, REXX execs, and operational procedures.
  • Convert AF Operator automation into IBM Z System Automation (IzSA) policy-based automation.
  • Configure and maintain System Automation Policy Databases (PDB).
  • Implement automated startup, shutdown, restart, and recovery procedures for z/OS subsystems.
  • Integrate IBM Z System Automation with NetView, GDPS, and other IBM Z management products.
  • Perform unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for migrated automation.
  • Support production cutover and post-migration stabilization.
  • Develop migration documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer.

  • 8+ years of IBM Mainframe System Programming or Automation experience.
  • Hands-on experience migrating AF Operator automation to IBM Z System Automation.
  • Experience with enterprise-wide automation, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production support experience in large z/OS environments.
  • Experience working in banking, insurance, or large enterprise mainframe environments.

Migration Activities

  • Inventory existing AF Operator automation assets.
  • Map AF Operator commands and automation rules to SA z/OS policies.
  • Convert REXX automation where applicable.
  • Create and validate System Automation policies.
  • Execute parallel testing and production cutover.
