The Role

• Perform organizational-level maintenance and repairs on metal components for barges and installed equipment.
• Execute welding tasks on various metal gauges and types in multiple positions, utilizing SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
• Apply preheating, brazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating techniques.
• Ensure fire safety compliance during hot work, including fire watch responsibilities and adherence to NAVSEA and OSHA standards.
• Obtain necessary approvals prior to commencing any welding, burning, or open flame operations.
• Ensure all work meets OEM specifications, NAVSEA Standard Items, and safety requirements.

What You'll Need

• High School education or equivalent, with 6+ years of progressive experience in welding and metal fabrication in marine or industrial settings.
• Proficiency in multiple welding positions and processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW) and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
• Must be able to work in shipyard/barge environments and adhere to OSHA, NAVSEA, and program safety protocols.
• Capability to perform torch cutting, hammer forging, grinding, sawing, and fitting of metal parts.
• General mechanic knowledge and ability to operate various tools for additional tasks, including drilling, tapping, boring, and reaming.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
