Java Microservices Engineer - 6 Month Contract - Hybrid in Edinburgh

Role Overview
We are looking for Engineers to join on a 6-month hybrid contract based in Edinburgh (2 days on-site), with 2 positions available. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and supporting software solutions that deliver business value while maintaining high standards of security, resilience, performance, and maintainability, working across a Java microservices, React, and cloud-hosted technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance software applications and services, writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Participate in end-to-end solution design and technical delivery, contributing to technical design discussions and code reviews
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues
  • Ensure compliance with security, risk, and engineering standards
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Analysts, Architects, and Engineers, mentoring junior engineers and promoting engineering best practices

Top 5 Skills

  • 10+ years' experience as a software engineer, with strong Java Spring Boot microservices development
  • React Single Page Application development
  • PostgreSQL database experience
  • API gateway experience (Tyk, Apigee, or DataPower) and hosting experience (PCF/TAS or AWS)
  • Batch and integration experience with tools such as StreamSets and Airflow

Contract Details:

  • Rate: £400 per day
  • Location: Hybrid (2x a week) in Edinburgh
  • Contract Length: 6-Month Initial Contract
