Backend Developer - Node.js/TypeScript

Fully Remote | £60,000-£70,000 | UK/Europe

We're working with a growing financial technology business that is looking for a strong Back End Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is a fully remote opportunity for someone with 4+ years of commercial software development experience, particularly strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript and cloud technologies.

You'll be working on a high-scale platform used by financial institutions and businesses, helping to build and improve scalable, secure and reliable Back End services.

The role

You'll work as part of a cross-functional engineering team, contributing to the development of new products as well as improving and evolving the existing platform.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing Back End web applications and services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Designing and developing scalable APIs and services
• Contributing to architecture and technical decisions
• Working with event-driven and microservice architectures
• Working with distributed messaging systems such as SQS, RabbitMQ or Kafka
• Integrating new technologies and frameworks
• Supporting and improving existing applications and codebases
• Working with cloud technologies, particularly AWS
• Using AI tools across the software development life cycle
• Contributing to engineering standards and continuous improvement

What we're looking for

• 4+ years of commercial software development experience
• Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Strong understanding of modern Back End development, APIs, services and architecture
• Experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform
• Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
• Experience with messaging technologies such as SQS, RabbitMQ or Kafka
• Good understanding of application security and scalable system design
• Comfortable working independently and picking up new technologies
• Strong communication skills and good spoken/written English
• Someone who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a positive engineering culture

Desirable

• AWS cloud-native development
• Infrastructure as Code
• Experience within financial services, fintech or another regulated environment
• Experience working with AI-assisted development tools
• Experience with coding agents or modern AI development practices
