About Code Metal
Code Metal is the leader in automated software engineering you can trust. As AI writes more of the world's code, the bottleneck in software has shifted from writing code to verifying it works, and AI cannot verify its own work with certainty. Code Metal takes a fundamentally different approach: constrain AI to what it does reliably, verify every step independently of the model using formal methods, and keep engineers in the loop on the decisions that matter. The result isn't code that probably works — it's code that is provably correct, with auditable proof. Customers including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, RTX, and Toshiba use Code Metal to modernize legacy code, optimize performance on real hardware, and move prototypes to production, fast. Founded in 2023 with offices in Boston and San Francisco, Code Metal is funded by Accel, Salesforce Ventures, B Capital, Smith Point Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital, Overmatch, RTX, and others.

About the Role:
The Director of FP&A owns Code Metal’s forward-looking financial picture: how we plan, forecast, allocate capital, and measure performance across two business models with different economics. You’ll build the planning engine, turn it into decisions with the executive team and board, and support fundraising and M&A. This is a hands-on role. You’ll build the models and the operating cadence yourself before building a team. You will report to the Head of Finance and work closely with the Controller, GTM, Contracts/BD, and department leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning & Forecasting:
Own the annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, and long-range model across commercial and government business lines.
Build revenue forecasts grounded in commercial bookings and sales capacity, plus GovCon backlog, weighted pipeline, and contract-type phasing (FFP, T&M, cost-type).
Partner with the Controller on indirect rate forecasting and with Contracts/BD on proposal pricing and wrap rates.
Performance & Reporting:
Define and maintain company KPIs, including Revenue/Bookings/Backlog, book-to-bill, backlog coverage, margin by product and contract type, and operating leverage.
Deliver monthly budget-versus-actual analysis with clear explanations of what’s driving the variances.
Build department and program-level reporting that leaders actually use to manage spend and headcount.
Capital & Strategy:
Own 13-week and long-range cash forecasting, runway planning, and related analyses.
Drive board and investor materials, including fundraising models, dilution scenarios, and data room support.
Model investment cases, new products, facilities and compute buildouts, and pricing, and track results against the original case after decisions are made.
Run scenario planning for key uncertainties such as award timing, hiring pace, and capital needs.
Systems & Team:
Build a scalable planning infrastructure connecting key systems and data (e.g. CRM, GL, and HR data), and evaluate planning tools as complexity grows.
Build and lead the FP&A team over time.
Desired Qualifications:
8+ years in FP&A, strategic finance, investment banking, or corporate development, including ownership of a company-level plan.
Experience planning for a government contracting business, including backlog, indirect rates, contract types, and pricing. Commercial software and services experience is a strong plus; both together is ideal.
Advanced three-statement and driver-based modeling skills.
Board and investor-facing experience, with fundraising or M&A support a plus.
Ability to turn analysis into a clear recommendation for executives, not just a dashboard.
Comfort building from scratch with imperfect data.
