Job description

Named Best Events Venue at the 2026 Scottish Event Awards, Strathclyde’s Sir Jim McDonald Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) is a modern, purpose-built venue in the heart of Glasgow. Operated by the University’s Conferencing & Events team, TIC is one of Scotland’s busiest conference venues, welcoming more than 44,000 delegates to over 600 events in academic year 2024/25. The team also delivers events and hospitality across the wider Strathclyde campus, including the Barony Hall, the new Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CHATIC) and a range of teaching and social spaces.

The Conference & Events Officer plays a key role in delivering a successful, sustainable and commercially focused conferencing and events service.

Following handover from Business Development, you will work closely with clients to understand their requirements, plan the details of their event and provide on-site support throughout delivery.

Events may be large, complex, hybrid or fully online, requiring confidence, initiative and a strong understanding of client needs, campus facilities and the functionality of our online event platform.

You will line manage the Conference Operations team and coordinate the input of colleagues across TIC Operations, Catering, Information Services, Estates Services and other teams to support professional event delivery.

You will also develop and improve systems and processes that support high-quality, client-focused events on campus and online, helping maintain TIC’s reputation as a world-class facility for research, knowledge exchange and conferencing.

Working with the Senior Conference & Events Officer and the Conferencing & Events management team, you will contribute to the ongoing development of Strathclyde’s commercial conferencing and events offer, ensuring it remains relevant, profitable and responsive to the business and academic events sector.

We are looking for a professional, organised and confident individual with experience in event or venue management and a strong track record in customer-facing service delivery. You will bring sound judgement, attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and confidence in working with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
