Job Description

Data & AI Governance Specialist
Large, complex and multi sector - Energy/Water, Telecoms, etc.

Purview administration experience needed plus:

- Understanding of governance frameworks, controls and policies
- Experience producing reports, metrics and governance documentation
- Experience working with data catalogues, metadata or data quality processes

Support the day-to-day operation of Data & AI Governance capability.

Based in Stevenage - but home working too

Inside IR35 - paid via an umbrella

Start 28th of September - initial six-month contract

You will work closely with the Data & AI Governance Manager, Data Owners, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders to maintain governance processes, support Microsoft Purview, produce governance reporting, and ensure governance activities are embedded consistently across the organisation.
You will help establish trusted, well-governed, and AI-ready data foundations that support reporting, analytics, automation, and AI adoption.
You will support the operation and continuous improvement of Data & AI Governance capability. The role will maintain governance processes, artefacts, records, and reporting, while helping to coordinate governance forums, audits, and assurance activities. It will support the administration of Microsoft Purview, including metadata, business glossary and data catalogue management, and help embed data ownership and stewardship practices across the organisation.
The role will also support Responsible AI governance, policy compliance, and governance reviews, producing metrics, dashboards, and insights that improve visibility, strengthen controls, and enable continuous improvement of data and AI governance maturity across Group.
Governance Operations - You'll support governance processes across the organisation. You'll:
- Maintain governance artefacts, standards, and supporting documentation
- Coordinate governance forums and working groups
- Track governance actions, decisions, issues and risks
- Support governance reporting and KPI production
- Maintain governance evidence and audit records
Microsoft Purview Administration - You'll support the operation of governance tooling. You'll:
- Maintain business glossary and metadata assets
- Support data catalogue activities
- Assist with ownership and stewardship management
- Support classification and governance processes
- Produce governance metrics and insights
Stewardship Enablement - You'll help Data Owners and Data Stewards operate effectively. You'll:
- Support stewardship onboarding and training activities
- Maintain governance guidance and reference materials
- Monitor completion of stewardship activities
- Escalate governance risks and issues where required
- Promote governance awareness across Group
AI Governance Support - You'll support Responsible AI governance processes. You'll:
- Maintain AI governance records and documentation
- Support risk assessments and governance reviews
- Track policy compliance and governance actions
- Assist with assurance and audit activities
- Support AI governance reporting
Reporting & Assurance - You'll provide governance visibility and operational support. You'll:
- Produce governance dashboards and reports
- Support audits and evidence gathering exercises
- Maintain governance registers and inventories
- Analyse governance metrics and trends
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Essential: Core skills, experience, qualifications and professional memberships you'll need from day one:
You'll have:
- Experience with Microsoft Purview
- Experience supporting Data Governance or Information Governance activities
- Understanding of governance frameworks, controls and policies
- Experience producing reports, metrics and governance documentation
- Experience working with data catalogues, metadata or data quality processes
- Strong organisation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Excellent written communication and documentation capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable: Other skills, experience, qualifications and professional memberships that will help you grow with us:
- Experience supporting data stewardship activities
- Experience supporting audit and compliance processes
- DAMA, Microsoft or governance-related certifications
- Experience within a large, federated organisation
