Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced IT Senior Consultant (Level 5) to provide expert-level technical leadership, systems analysis, architectural design, and operational oversight for complex networks and enterprise-level infrastructure. This position requires deep knowledge of Cisco networking technologies, cross-domain solutions, Linux-based troubleshooting, and enterprise-level security best practices. The Senior Consultant will oversee network architecture upgrades, mentor junior engineers, lead large-scale technical projects, and serve as the primary expert for critical network issues and high impact operational decisions. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight
• Provide daily oversight, mentoring, and advanced guidance to entry-level engineers.
• Document network issues, solutions, and architectures using Visio.
• Provide Tier 3 support, including on-call/after-hours response. Network Architecture & Design
• Review and recommend improvements to network designs, maintenance plans, and implementations.
• Lead the design, deployment, documentation, and implementation of new network requirements.
• Direct and execute major network architecture upgrades, including white paper development.
• Reverse engineer systems to define specifications, interfaces, and integration requirements.
• Design, build, and integrate systems and networks into customer infrastructures.
• Create router/switch templates for network standardization. Cisco Infrastructure Engineering
• Perform advanced fault analysis, isolation, correction, and upgrades for Cisco routers, switches, and ASA firewalls.
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco Catalyst switches (STP, Port Security, VTP, EtherChannels, VLANs).
• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco ASR routers (HSRP, OSPF, BGP, route maps).
• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco ASA firewalls, ACLs, NAT, and related security rules.
• Install and upgrade Cisco switches and ASA IOS using TFTP.
• Implement SSH/RADIUS authentication on Cisco hardware. Advanced Network Configuration & Protocols
• Configure MPLS/VPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, and Access-layer switching architectures.
• Troubleshoot DNS, SMTP, IP routing, latency, and connectivity issues.
• Implement and maintain TCP/IP services (DHCP/DNS).
• Support cross-domain network solutions including VPNs, one-way transfers, mission systems, and Taclane 175 encryption devices. Security & Systems Operations
• Oversee software and network security operations.
• Troubleshoot HTTP/SSL/TLS issues.
• Configure and troubleshoot BIND, DHCP, DNS servers.
• Troubleshoot network issues using protocol analyzers. Diagnostics, Scripting & Performance
• Monitor system performance and implement tuning improvements.
• Use Linux tools (tcpdump, ssldump, curl, wget, mtr, tcp traceroute, nmap, openssl, tshark) for advanced diagnostics.
• Develop Bash or Python scripts to automate troubleshooting and analysis tasks. Project Leadership & Management
• Manage project work in alignment with government leadership.
• Lead medium-to-large complex projects and major phases of enterprise programs. Expert Technical Guidance
• Deliver specialized engineering guidance and advanced solutions to complex IT challenges.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, white papers, and presentations for executive stakeholders. Required Qualifications • Active Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (mandatory, no exceptions)
• Bachelor’s Degree + 12 years relevant experience • Associate Degree + 15 years relevant experience
• High School Diploma/GED + 20 years relevant experience
• IAT Level II (Security+ CE, GSEC, CySA+, CCNA Security, or GICSP)
• Deep expertise with Cisco Routers, Switches, and ASA Firewalls
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, and routing protocols
• Experience with Linux-based troubleshooting tools
• Strong documentation, architectural planning, and presentation abilities
• Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced environment
