CNC Setup Technician

Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Setup Technician to join their manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC lathes and mills to ensure efficient production of high-quality precision components. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with CNC machine setup, G-code editing, blueprint reading, and precision measurement, along with the ability to independently resolve machining issues and maintain production quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC machines by mounting and securing tools, fixtures, and workpieces.
- Load, edit, and adjust G-code CNC programs.
- Perform first-piece inspections using precision measuring tools and make machine offsets as needed.
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as:
- Worn tooling
- Machine vibration
- Feed/speed adjustments
- Perform routine machine maintenance:
- Lubrication
- Cleaning
- Coolant replacement
- Maintain setup sheets, production logs, and quality inspection documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years of CNC setup
Strong ability to:
- Read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Interpret job routers.
- Understand fixtures and work holding.
- Experience with precision measuring equipment:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Gauges
Strong understanding of:
- G-code
- CNC machining processes
- CNC lathes and mills
- High school diploma or GED required; machining certificate or technical diploma preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Good close, distance, peripheral, and color vision with depth perception.
Work Environment:
- Office/manufacturing environment with normal noise levels.
Ideal Candidate Summary:
- 5 8+ years setting up CNC machines.
- Comfortable editing G-code.
- Experienced with blueprint reading and precision measurement.
- Able to troubleshoot machining issues independently.
- Familiar with both CNC lathes and mills and capable of performing first-piece inspections and routine maintenance.
Salary: $26-$32/HR (depends on experience level) + benefits.
