Natural/Adabas Programming Analyst

Position Overview

The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) is seeking an experienced Programming Analyst/Application Developer to support the EBT/EFITS team. This role is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining mission-critical enterprise applications built on Natural/Adabas technologies.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing complex, multi-tier applications, collaborating with business stakeholders, analyzing requirements, and delivering scalable technical solutions throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This position also participates in an on-call support rotation to ensure the continued reliability of critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using Natural/Adabas.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Collaborate with business users and stakeholders to identify system enhancements and process improvements.
• Develop and maintain SQL queries and database objects to support application functionality.
• Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including:
  • Requirements Analysis
  • System Design
  • Development
  • Quality Assurance & Testing
  • Implementation
  • Production Support & Maintenance
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution.
• Participate in the team''s rotating on-call support schedule.
• Contribute to continuous process improvement and technical best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Natural/Adabas.
• Strong experience with SQL development.
• Experience with SCL in a Linux environment.
• Advanced experience designing, implementing, and enhancing large-scale Natural applications.
• Experience gathering and documenting business requirements in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Ability to recommend technical solutions and drive issue resolution.
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• 7+ years of hands-on experience supporting State Department of Human Services (DHS) systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the following is highly desirable:

• Microsoft SQL Server
• Unix/Linux operating systems
• Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, XP)
• Experience working within government or public sector environments
• Additional Linux administration experience
