What we’re looking for…

We’re looking for an Engineering Team Leader, where  your mission is to drive shift performance and build a safe, high-performing engineering culture. While practical support may be needed during critical escalations, your primary focus is leadership. You will coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities, ensuring the maximum effectiveness of your team to drive plant reliability and performance. Furthermore, you will own the post-breakdown resolution process, following up with robust, '100-year fixes' to completely eliminate recurring faults, and champion continuous improvement across the site.

As our Engineering Team Lead you will be responsible for…

  • Safety First: Champion a robust safety culture on shift, ensuring all engineering duties, tasks, and contractor activities adhere strictly to site safety, and hygiene standards. Safety is always the number 1 priority.
  • Asset Performance: Lead the shift team to maximize OEE on high-speed filling lines, focusing on swift breakdown resolution (MTTR reduction), proactive fault elimination, and robust execution of both Corrective and Preventative Maintenance schedules.
  • Team Leadership & Morale: Drive, motivate, and empower your shift team. Foster high team morale, clear communication, and strong engagement across the shift.
  • Performance Management: Set clear expectations and quarterly priorities for the team.
  • Manage day-to-day team performance, conduct regular 1-to-1s, and support individual development using AG Barr's performance management framework.
  • Breakdown Resolution: Take ownership of major equipment failures by leading Root cause Analysis (RCA) and completing Major Breakdown Reports (MBRs), ensuring sustainable corrective actions are executed to prevent recurrence.
  • Operational Execution & Handovers: Lead the daily engineering shift handover and morning meetings. Coordinate shift activities, allocate work orders, and drive efficiency and site performance while on shift.
  • Leader Standard Work (LSW): Rigorously carry out Leader Standard Work tasks, ensuring engineering routines, audits, work order reviews, and operational standards are consistently met.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion site-wide continuous improvement through AG Barr’s operational excellence framework 'Brilliance in the Making', leveraging data-driven insights and downtime analysis to maximize equipment reliability and elevate OEE performance.
  • Technical Support & Escalation: Step in with practical technical guidance or brief hands-on troubleshooting when critical equipment issues require it, acting as the technical authority for shift escalation Engineering Team Leadership & Development
  • Talent and Skill Development: Coach and empower your technicians to maximize team capability. You will actively build the shift's skillset by leading engineering recruitment, identifying skill gaps, and delivering structured training plans and PDPs to nurture top talent.

What you’ll bring…

  • Leadership & People Management: Proven experience leading and developing an engineering team within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (FMCG / Food & Beverage preferred).
  • Technical Qualification: Minimum HNC / ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
  • Breakdown & Problem-Solving Expertise: Strong experience using structured problem-solving methodologies, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and generating detailed post-breakdown documentation (MBRs).
  • Safety Mindset: Strong understanding of health and safety regulations (Nebosh / IOSH Managing safety qualification is desirable) with an unwavering commitment to safe working practices.
  • Operational Drive: Experience using Leader Standard Work (LSW), leading dailyshift/engineering meetings, and driving shift performance against targets/KPIs.
  • Flexibility: Fully comfortable working a 3 on 3 off rotating days and nights shift pattern
  • Proven track record of operating at engineering leadership level within a food manufacturing environment or FMCG
  • Familiarity with reliability standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 55000) and methodologies such as FMEA, RCM, and FTA.
  • Experience and understanding of Google and CMMS.
  • Experience working in a multi-skilled engineering environment
  • Experience of contributing to a multi-functional operational management team
