Job Title: Senior Specialist, Software Engineering Job Code: 44992 Job Location: Colorado Springs, CO Job Schedule: 9/80 Job Description: The Senior Specialist, Software Engineering will provide technical leadership for software sustainment of a fielded satellite communications system. The role leads analysis and resolution of security findings, designs and implements complex system improvements, and delivers reliable software that supports an operational mission. Work includes architecture and detailed design, technical documentation, implementation, automated testing, and collaboration across engineering disciplines. • Lead the design, documentation, implementation, code review, and automated testing of complex software features and sustainment releases.
• Own technically challenging sustainment activities, including security remediation, root-cause analysis, system improvements, and resolution of customer-impacting software issues.
• Provide technical guidance to team members; contribute to development standards, peer reviews, planning, estimation, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
• Partner with systems, test, cybersecurity, and customer stakeholders to define solutions, verify system behavior, and support deployment and operational readiness. Occasional travel may be required. Active TS/SCI clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance required.
• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience, or equivalent experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience is required.
• Demonstrated expertise developing production software in Python, Java, C, C++, or comparable object-oriented languages.
• Strong experience developing and troubleshooting software in Unix/Linux environments, including shell scripting and system-level debugging.
• Demonstrated experience with software architecture and design, automated unit and integration testing, and delivery of maintainable, well-documented code.
• Proven technical leadership in design reviews, code reviews, complex debugging, and mentoring or guiding less-experienced engineers.
• Ability to work on-site and communicate complex technical information clearly to engineering and program stakeholders.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience with Meadowlands system development or comparable satellite communications mission systems.
• Experience designing, implementing, or improving CI/CD pipelines, including automated build, test, security, and deployment workflows.
• Experience developing, deploying, and troubleshooting containerized applications using Docker or comparable container technologies.
• Experience integrating software with FPGA-based systems, embedded hardware, or other hardware interfaces.
• Experience developing production software in TypeScript and modern web application frameworks.
• Experience with automated test frameworks, test strategy, and software verification in mission-critical environments.
• Experience working in Agile and DevSecOps environments, including configuration management and secure software development practices.
• Familiarity with agentic AI concepts and AI-enabled development workflows, including prompt/context engineering, tool integration (e.g., APIs or MCP), development of reusable agents or skills, and effective validation of AI-generated software artifacts. Experience with CI/CD Pipelines.

#LI-LS4 In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state is $97,000 - $180,000 annually.
