About us

Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA leads the way in realizing fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. Our goal is to bring fusion electricity to the grid by developing the power stations of tomorrow and the skilled workforce to deliver them.

About the job

Join UKAEA as an Electrical Draftsperson and play a key role in delivering the electrical design documentation that supports world-leading fusion research and technology programmes. Working across a range of projects, you will create high-quality technical designs and drawings that enable the safe, efficient manufacture, installation and operation of complex systems. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise while contributing to the advancement of fusion energy.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Produce electrical drawings and technical documentation from concept through to detailed design using specialist CAD tools.
  • Create 2D and 3D drawings to support electrical design solutions and system integration.
  • Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams, along with pneumatic and hydraulic control system diagrams.
  • Control and maintain design documentation within PDM/PLM systems in line with established procedures.
  • Coordinate design activities to deliver accurate documentation within project timescales and budgets.
  • Apply relevant UK, European and international standards to ensure compliant design deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop integrated electrical and mechanical design solutions.
  • Administer CAD, PDM/PLM and related systems to support effective documentation workflows.
  • Review and release drawings to ensure they meet UKAEA quality requirements.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to colleagues in the production of electrical documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience using AutoCAD and/or electrical CAD software to create electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience using PDM/PLM systems or equivalent document and configuration management tools.
  • Demonstrable experience producing technical drawings to recognised UK and European standards, including electrical documentation standards.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation that supports manufacture, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or knowledge transfer relating to electrical drafting and documentation.
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and experience using SharePoint.

UKAEA is an onsite organisation, and this role requires regular onsite presence (usually between 3-5 days in any given week) in line with business needs. We actively support flexible working arrangements where this is compatible with the role.

  • Flexible working options plus family-friendly leave provisions
