Quick Overview
Job Description
About Allocate
Allocate is building the operating system for private markets — wealth advisors and their clients use the platform to access, transact in, and manage private market investments. The platform supports 350+ advisory firms and 1,500+ GP relationships, with $ 5B+ in assets on the platform.
About The Role
Atlas Fund Services, LLC is the fund administration business unit of Allocate. Our team runs the operations behind the private market funds and feeder vehicles that advisors and their clients access through the Allocate platform — fund accounting, capital calls and distributions, investor allocations, financial statements, and audit support.
As a Senior Fund Accountant, you will own our most complex funds end to end and serve as the reviewer and technical resource for the accountants working alongside you. You will be the person who reads the partnership agreement, decides how an unusual provision should be applied, and stands behind that answer with auditors, fund sponsors, and investors. You will also work closely with our product and engineering teams, since the systems that run this work are built in-house and shaped by the people who use them.
This is a senior individual contributor role without direct reports. It suits someone who has already run private markets fund operations at depth, is ready to raise the standard of the work around them, and would rather build better process than repeat the same one.
What You’ll Own
Own end-to-end fund operations for a portfolio of the firm’s more complex funds and vehicles, including financial accounting, capital calls and distributions, investor reporting, and cash management.
Review the work of other fund accountants — allocations, capital account statements, capital call and distribution notices, and reconciliations — and give feedback that raises the quality of the team’s output.
Interpret partnership agreements, subscription documents, and side letters, and translate their economic terms into allocations, waterfalls, carried interest, and management fee calculations.
Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements and footnote disclosures, and serve as the primary point of contact for the fund audit.
Partner with external service providers across banking, legal, audit, and tax to create a seamless experience for investors and fund sponsors.
Work actively with the software development team to scope, test, and implement automation and other efficiency improvements across fund workflows.
Serve as a technical resource and informal mentor for less experienced members of the team.
Lead special projects and initiatives where your interests and Allocate’s strategic priorities align.
Follow and contribute to the ongoing improvement of compliance policies and process documentation.
What Success Looks Like
The funds you own close, report, and distribute on schedule, and the work you review goes out right the first time.
Fund audits complete on deadline with no material adjustments or significant deficiencies, with you as the primary contact.
Complex or ambiguous fund terms get a clear, documented answer that the team can apply consistently the next time they come up.
Junior accountants measurably improve under your review, and fewer issues reach the Managing Director unresolved.
You partner with product and engineering to eliminate recurring manual work, with visible reductions in cycle time each quarter.
Who You Are
5+ years of experience in fund administration servicing private equity and/or venture capital funds, with proven operations and project management skills.
Deep working knowledge of private markets fund accounting — allocations, waterfalls, carried interest, management fees, and the applicable reporting requirements.
Hands-on experience with a fund accounting platform and confidence learning a new one.
Comfort reading and applying fund legal documents, including limited partnership agreements and side letters.
Experience working within a regulated and supervised industry.
Robust analytical skills across quantitative and qualitative metrics.
Exemplary oral and written communication skills, including with investors and external auditors.
Ability and willingness to lead and manage complex initiatives and tasks, and to review others’ work constructively.
Dedication to Allocate’s mission.
Nice to Have
Experience with Allvue, Zive, or a comparable fund accounting platform.
Experience migrating from one fund accounting platform to another.
CPA, or public accounting experience in an alternative investments practice.
Comfort using SQL, advanced Excel, or AI-assisted tools to speed up recurring analysis and reporting.
Essential Values & Culture
Providing our clients with a world-class experience is our number one priority. We obsessively search for ways to improve the experience for our clients and partners. This requires extraordinary response times, proactivity, and ensuring that everything we do — from product strategy to offline communications — reflects a top-tier client experience.
Challenge convention: Instead of detailing all the reasons why an idea may not work, we constantly question things to determine how a viable idea may be put into motion.
Commitment to continuous improvement: We find ways to personally scale each day by pushing ourselves up the learning curve.
Meritocracy, not politics: We place the utmost value on results and rewards through merit, not reward actions driven by political agendas or behavior.
Civil Discourse is embraced: We believe open, intellectually curious conversations are required to consistently arrive at the best decisions. Respect is paramount in our dealings with one another, but our mission is always to get the right answer collectively, not to be right.
Embrace technological change: We adopt tools and techniques that make us faster, smarter, and better. We stay open to innovation, especially around AI and automation, and drop outdated methods without hesitation. This includes actively integrating AI-assisted tools into your daily workflow and staying current as the landscape evolves. Complacency kills progress — we value adaptability and curiosity.
