Mechanical Estimator

Location: Broomall, PA Salary: $60,000.00 USD Annually - $85,000.00 USD Annually Description: Our client is currently seeking a Mechanical Estimator for a full-time position.
About the Position
We are a growing commercial HVAC and plumbing contractor serving the Greater Philadelphia area and are seeking an experienced Commercial Mechanical Estimator to join our team.
This role is responsible for developing accurate, complete, and profitable estimates for commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects. The ideal candidate understands commercial mechanical systems, labor productivity, project costs, and construction operations. They recognize that successful estimating is about more than winning bids. It is about helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects.
• Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
• Evaluate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, rentals, and overall project costs.
• Obtain and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as necessary.
• Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, risks, and constructability concerns prior to bid submission.
• Develop proposals, bid packages, exclusions, clarifications, and alternate pricing options.
• Generate pricing for change orders and project modifications.
• Maintain accurate bid records and project documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers and field teams to review estimated versus actual project performance.
• Support project handoff activities after project award.
• Continuously improve estimating accuracy through project performance analysis and lessons learned.

Qualifications
Required

• Experience estimating commercial HVAC or mechanical construction projects.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and bid documents.
• Understanding of commercial mechanical systems and installation methods.
• Knowledge of labor productivity, job costing, gross margin, and project profitability.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred

• 3+ years of commercial mechanical estimating or related experience.
• Experience with commercial HVAC construction projects.
• Field experience as a mechanic, foreman, superintendent, or project manager.
• Experience with Bluebeam or similar digital takeoff software.
• ServiceTitan experience.
• Commercial plumbing estimating experience.
• Experience with renovations, tenant fit-outs, equipment replacements, retrofits, and plan-and-spec projects.
