Job description

2079 Network Engineer

Manufacturing Network Infrastructure

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to oversee the design, deployment, and ongoing support of network infrastructure in an automotive manufacturing setting. The position combines strong enterprise and wireless networking expertise with the ability to coordinate infrastructure initiatives in an environment where system availability and uninterrupted production are essential.

Key Responsibilities

•               Implement, support, and troubleshoot Cisco Catalyst switches and Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC), including VLANs, QoS, and access controls for office and production networks.

•               Configure and administer Cisco Meraki solutions, including MX security appliances, MS switches, and MR wireless access points, using the Meraki dashboard for monitoring and troubleshooting.

•               Maintain Cisco firewall platforms such as ASA and Firepower, managing security policies, VPN connectivity, and separation of business and operational technology networks.

•               Maintain network connectivity for manufacturing execution systems (MES), industrial controllers, and production equipment while limiting disruptions to operations.

•               Coordinate and execute network initiatives such as infrastructure refreshes, facility expansions, wireless enhancements, and site transitions, from initial planning through completion.

•               Keep network diagrams, technical records, and operating procedures accurate and up to date.

•               Track network health and availability, identifying and addressing performance concerns before they affect manufacturing.

•               Apply network security controls, including IT/OT segmentation, firewall policies, and appropriate access restrictions.

•               Coordinate with network vendors, outside providers, and service partners.

•               Provide guidance to less experienced technical staff and partner with IT, engineering, production, and operations teams.

•               Share responsibility for after-hours support and respond to urgent network incidents that could disrupt production.

Required Qualifications

•               At least five years of network engineering experience; industrial or manufacturing experience is highly desirable.

•               Hands-on knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switching and Cisco WLC platforms, including VLAN architecture and network segmentation.

•               Strong experience administering Cisco Meraki MX, MS, and MR products through the cloud management dashboard.

•               Practical experience with Cisco ASA or Firepower firewalls, including security rules, VPNs, and network segmentation.

•               Experience coordinating infrastructure projects, including budgets, timelines, planning, and cross-functional delivery.

•               Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to balance competing needs across IT and plant operations.

•               Understanding of network protection practices, particularly separation of corporate IT systems and operational technology environments.

•               Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or comparable professional experience.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

•               Microsoft 365 administration experience covering Exchange Online, Entra ID/Azure AD, SharePoint Online, Teams, and security/compliance capabilities.

•               Familiarity with AI assistants or related tools used to streamline IT operations, reporting, or administrative workflows.

•               Industry credentials such as CCNA, CCNP, Meraki CMNA/ECMS, CCNP Security, PMP, or equivalent certifications.

•               Experience with industrial networks, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or plant-floor control systems.

Skills and Attributes

•               Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including structured root-cause investigation.

•               Ability to balance several infrastructure initiatives and changing priorities in a production-focused environment.

•               Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical issues to nontechnical colleagues.

•               A dependable, ownership-oriented approach to projects, service issues, and follow-through.

•               Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.

Work Environment

This position supports an active manufacturing site and may involve time on the production floor, along with occasional on-call or after-hours support to protect operational continuity.
