Software Engineering Manager

Who you’ll be working with

We build the solutions dreamed up by the product and design teams. Our goal is to deliver working software every two weeks. We are a large team that spans across three global offices, but we collaborate and integrate front- and back-end components and interfaces to provide a user-centered experience through web and mobile platforms.

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead and develop engineering teams, own delivery outcomes, and provide technical leadership across multiple client engagements.

• People Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, manage, and grow software engineering teams while owning career development, performance reviews, and resource planning across multiple engagements. Coach emerging leaders and foster a collaborative culture focused on continuous learning, accountability, and technical maturity.
• Drive effective resource planning, staffing, and skill development aligned with evolving client and business needs.

• Software Engineering & Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership across software engineering engagements by guiding architectural decisions, reviewing engineering proposals, and ensuring scalable, secure solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define effective technical approaches while balancing trade-offs and risks. Support teams with strong technical judgment and hands-on guidance when required.

• Engineering Excellence & Delivery Management

• Own engineering delivery across assigned projects by ensuring predictable execution, promoting best practices in code quality and Agile delivery, and balancing commitments with technical debt reduction.

• Architecture, Performance & Security

• Drives strategic decisions on system architecture, scalability, and cloud infrastructure while balancing performance, complexity, and trade-offs. Integrates security, data protection, and observability into workflows, collaborating with DevOps, security, and cloud teams to deliver resilient, production-ready software solutions.

• Client Relationship

• Act as a trusted technical partner for assigned client accounts, leading discussions on engineering strategy, architecture, and project progress. Own engineering commitments by translating business needs into actionable plans and maintaining transparent communication to build strong client relationships. Identify opportunities to optimize outcomes through modernization, innovation, and effective problem-solving.

• Solutioning, Presales & Business Growth

• In this role, you will take part in presales engineering efforts by collaborating with cross-functional teams to define the approach, technical strategies, architecture, and delivery roadmaps. 
• You will identify risks, scope considerations, and opportunities for modernization to drive successful client solutions and expand engineering capabilities.

What you’ll need to be successful (Requirements)

Must-Have Skills

• Experienced in preferred tech stack:
• Backend: NodeJS or Python
• Frontend: React, Next.js, or TypeScript
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar
• Cloud Providers: AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, design principles, and software design patterns.
• Strong understanding of modern application architecture, including frontend, backend, APIs, databases, integrations, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience guiding architecture and implementation decisions, reviewing technical designs, and identifying engineering risks and trade-offs.
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering delivery across multiple projects, teams, or client engagements.
• Strong client-facing communication, stakeholder management, and technical decision-making skills.
• Experience contributing to technical proposals, presales solutioning, effort estimation, and architecture assessments.Experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, or service-oriented architecture.
• Experience with observability, application performance monitoring, and production incident management.
• Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and project management tools such as Jira.
• Experience with engineering metrics and delivery analytics, including quality, predictability, productivity, and operational performance.
• Experience with AI-assisted software engineering tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent tools to improve engineering productivity and quality.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with application modernization, legacy system transformation, or large-scale software reengineering.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, reusable frameworks, accelerators, or internal developer platforms.
• Experience working with globally distributed teams and cross-office delivery models.
