Job Description

What You Will Do

FM Systems, part of Johnson Controls (JCI), delivers workplace management technology that helps facilities and real estate teams create efficient, employee-focused environments. Our solutions support space optimisation, asset management, real estate planning, scheduling and sustainability, enabling customers to improve performance and efficiency.

We are recruiting a Trainee Field Service Technician to join our team with a January 2027 start date. This field-based role will primarily support customer projects across Newcastle, the North East, Sunderland and Teesside/Middlesbrough, with travel across the UK during the training period.

Working mainly on customer sites, you will assist with the installation, testing and commissioning of our sensor technology. The role requires flexibility to travel, including regular overnight stays, and to work varying shift patterns depending on project requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical and technically minded individual looking to build a career in field services.

How You Will Do It

  • Assist with the installation and testing of sensor technology on customer sites
  • Prepare and install hardware in line with project requirements
  • Review floor plans to determine equipment placement and installation needs
  • Maintain accurate installation records using Excel and company systems
  • Carry out on-site system testing and basic fault finding
  • Complete documentation in accordance with company standards and procedures
  • Work closely with colleagues, customers and project teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Follow all health, safety and quality requirements while working on-site

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home when required
  • Flexibility to work early morning, late and shift patterns
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Confident communication skills with customers and colleagues
  • Physical ability to undertake installation work, including working at height using ladders, bending and working under desks
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn

Beneficial

  • Previous experience in installation, field service, telecommunications, electrical or technology-related environments
  • Basic understanding of hardware installations and testing
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices when working on customer sites
