Job ID: 1944
The Role:
We are looking for a Senior Receiving Inspector to join our Quality team. As a Senior Receiving Inspector, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will make sure that incoming, in-process, and finished components agree with mechanical, electrical, and PCBA specifications. You will also own the inspection element of the Material Review Board (MRB) process: the handling and the containment of nonconforming material, the inspection actions that the MRB assigns, and the verification, closure, and tracking of nonconformance records after the Quality Engineer gives the disposition. You will serve as the senior technical resource for inspection, allocate daily inspection work, and give guidance to less-experienced inspectors. The ideal candidate balances technical expertise with the professional integrity to hold quality standards under production pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily inspection of incoming parts, in-process production, and final release of finished goods. Determine the inspection method and the sequence of daily work with little instruction.
- Inspect mechanical, electrical, and PCBA components and their documentation against approved engineering specifications, drawings, and purchase order requirements.
- Interpret drawing callouts and datum structures (GD&T, ASME Y14.5), and convert them into inspection plans and acceptance criteria.
- Apply statistical sampling plans to select the sample size and the acceptance criteria, and increase the sample size when the quality data shows a risk.
- Select and use the correct metrology gauges and instruments, and program and operate automated measurement systems (CMM, OMM, or vision systems).
- Support the calibration schedule. Remove out-of-tolerance equipment from service and start the recall and impact assessment for affected product. Keep the inspection area and the tooling to the local 5S procedure.
- Control nonconforming material. Identify, tag, segregate, and quarantine the material, and keep lot and serial traceability correct at each move (ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Do the containment actions. Sweep stock, work-in-process, in-transit, and finished goods to find all affected material, and hold the affected lots until the disposition is complete.
- Write the nonconformance record (NCR) for Material Review Board review with the nonconforming condition, the measurement data, the affected quantity, the traceability data, and photographs, and present the inspection evidence at the MRB.
- Do the inspection actions that the MRB assigns, including 100% screen, sort, re-inspection, expanded sampling, and verification of rework or repair against the approved disposition.
- Verify and close nonconformance records after the Quality Engineer gives the disposition. Confirm that the disposition is complete and that the objective evidence is in the record. The Quality Engineer holds the disposition authority; refer each condition that does not agree with the disposition back to the Quality Engineer.
- Track the MRB closure action items. Keep the MRB log and the aging report, follow up with the action owners, report open and overdue items at the quality meeting, and escalate items at risk.
- Verify the mutilation and the disposal of scrapped material so that it cannot return to the supply chain and to prevent counterfeit parts.
- Give the inspection data from non conformances to the Quality Engineer to support root cause analysis, corrective action, and supplier corrective action requests (SCARs).
- Draft, review, and release inspection procedures and work instructions in the document control system. Analyze inspection and nonconformance data, and issue metrics for first pass yield, defect Pareto, NCR aging, and inspection turnaround time.
- Serve as the lead inspector. Allocate the daily inspection workload, train and give technical guidance to less-experienced inspectors, verify their inspection results and nonconformance records before release, and propose improvements to inspection methods, tooling, and procedures.
- Work with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, suppliers, and calibration and test laboratories to resolve quality problems and to complete source inspection and first article inspection activities.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as the subject matter resource for inspection and for the control of nonconforming outputs, and give the inspection position at change reviews for proposed process and design changes.
- Keep compliance with quality management system, export control, and customer contract requirements for the handling, the marking, and the storage of controlled material and data.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 6 or more years of related experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in PCBA inspection to IPC-A-610 requirements, and with aerospace inspection processes and standards.
- Demonstrated experience with the control of nonconforming product and with the Material Review Board process, including material identification and segregation, containment, assigned inspection actions, and the verification and closure of nonconformance records.
- Experience with a Quality Management System (QMS) or ERP nonconformance module for the creation, the tracking, and the closure of nonconformance records and action items.
- Demonstrated experience to allocate work to, to train, and to give technical guidance to less-experienced inspectors.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, including a thorough understanding of datum structures per ASME Y14.5.
- Expert-level proficiency with layout tools (surface plates, height gages, indicators, calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, and thread gages).
- Solid proficiency in standard office software for data analysis, document creation, and scheduling.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds (18 kg) and to stand for extended periods during inspection cycles.
- Strict adherence to all company safety requirements and PPE protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Communicates effectively at all organizational levels, which includes management, engineering, and physicists, to resolve complex quality issues.
- Working knowledge of root cause analysis and problem solving methods (5-Why, Ishikawa, or 8D) to support the Quality Engineer during nonconformance investigations.
- Experience with first article inspection (AS9102) and with source inspection at supplier sites.
- Certification as an ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or equivalent.
- A quality-first mindset with a proven record of precision, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter who is willing to learn, to grow, and to support other QA functions as required.
