Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in various locations. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Join us as a Senior Temporary Works Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Location: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

We're seeking a skilled engineer to lead the delivery of construction engineering services, providing solutions which are safe and buildable. This is an opportunity to contribute to complex projects whilst working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. You'll play a key role in supporting our clients and enhancing our reputation for delivering innovative, engineered outcomes. This position offers the chance to develop your expertise whilst mentoring others and shaping technical standards across the organisation.

Are you...

  • An incorporated member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IEng MICE) with significant relevant experience, or have demonstrable relevant experience in the field
  • Experienced in temporary works design and checking, above and below ground in all materials
  • Able to lead the development of design solutions and provide technical assessment of third party designs
  • Capable of managing project workloads and ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies
  • Committed to continuous professional development and maintaining membership of a professional body

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Temporary Works Engineer, you'll be working within the Kier Design team, supporting them in delivering construction engineering services across a broad range of projects. We're seeking a skilled engineer to lead the delivery of construction engineering services, providing solutions which are safe and buildable. Your day to day will include:

  • Leading temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works design as applicable
  • Providing tender and bid winning support including outline design schemes, feasibility studies and value engineering solutions
  • Managing technical aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and Kier's Quality Management System
  • Developing positive relationships with clients and design teams, representing Kier at project meetings
  • Mentoring and developing staff within Kier Design, promoting the engineering profession and maintaining knowledge transfer
