Mechanical Design Engineering Manager

Our client is a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Newry, developing specialist machinery and equipment for the construction sector. We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineering Manager to lead a small engineering team while remaining hands-on with product development. The position is also open to experienced design engineers who would be interested in moving into a management level position. This is an opportunity to work on specialist machinery where mechanical design, hydraulics, manufacturing, durability and operator efficiency all come together. The business is continuing to develop its product range and expand its presence, making this an exciting time to join. Candidates applying to this role should have hydraulics experience with some practical electrical understanding. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a small team of engineers. Take ownership of mechanical product development from concept through to production. Produce and develop 3D models, manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks. Manage prototyping, testing and product release. Work closely with Production to improve quality, build times, cost and manufacturability. Lead technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis. Support the resolution of field and warranty issues. Drive continuous improvement and design-for-manufacture initiatives. Work closely with senior management, production, suppliers and customers. Provide clear technical recommendations and support the ongoing product roadmap. Requirements 7+ years' experience within mechanical/design engineering. Strong experience developing mechanical machinery or products from concept to production. Strong 3D SolidWorks experience, including manufacturing drawings. Strong hydraulics knowledge with practical electrical understanding. Experience with steel fabrication, machining and prototyping. Strong understanding of design for manufacture. Experience with machinery troubleshooting and root-cause analysis. Previous experience leading projects and/or managing or mentoring engineers. Good commercial awareness, particularly around cost, quality and production efficiency. What's On Offer Permanent opportunity with a growing engineering business.
