Job description

Job#: 3056958
Job Description:
Senior SDET
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah (On-site)
Role Overview
This organization is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to establish and scale quality engineering practices across critical financial API platforms, specifically focusing on core integration frameworks. The successful candidate will design and implement the automation frameworks, CI/CD quality gates, test planning practices, and AI-assisted testing capabilities needed to support reliable product delivery. This hands-on technical role requires a professional who thinks like a developer, understands complex API and integration ecosystems, and can build durable test infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable API, integration, regression, smoke, contract, and end-to-end test automation frameworks.
  • Define and implement CI/CD quality gates for pull requests, merges, release candidates, and production readiness.
  • Create formal test plans for major releases, partner integrations, regulatory-impacting workflows, and transaction changes.
  • Develop automated tests for REST APIs, backend services, integration workflows, data validation, authorization logic, and partner-facing interfaces.
  • Establish contract testing, mocking, stubbing, and service virtualization practices for external providers and dependent systems.
  • Implement load, performance, resiliency, negative-path, and failure-mode testing for high-volume API workflows.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tooling to generate test scenarios, expand edge-case coverage, and accelerate regression suite creation.
  • Analyze automated test results using AI-assisted tools to validate failures, detect anomalies, and distinguish product defects from environmental issues.
  • Build release-readiness dashboards and quality metrics covering regression health, defect trends, performance, and release risk.
  • Partner with developers, product owners, DevOps engineers, and architects to define testable requirements and improve system observability.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: Five or more years of experience in software quality engineering, software development engineer in test (SDET), test automation, or related software engineering roles.
Technical Skills: Proven experience building automated test frameworks for APIs and backend services. Hands-on programming proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C#, or Python. Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines utilizing Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, authentication patterns, and distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in financial technology, banking, payments, or other regulated financial services environments.
  • Experience testing microservices, event-driven architectures, message broker-based systems, or cloud-native environments.
  • Familiarity with Postman, Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Pact, WireMock, JMeter, k6, Docker, Kubernetes, or Kafka.
  • Experience utilizing AI or large language model tools to generate tests, review code, or improve test coverage.
