About the Role
Make a Lasting Difference Behind the Scenes
We're looking for an experienced and proactive Site Manager to play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment where pupils can thrive.
This is much more than a maintenance role. You'll be at the heart of the school's operations, leading facilities services, ensuring compliance, managing a dedicated team, and taking pride in maintaining a school that enables exceptional learning experiences every day.
If you're a hands-on leader with strong facilities management experience, excellent health and safety knowledge, and a passion for making a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
As Site Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, security, and presentation of the school site. Working closely with the Bursar and wider leadership team, you'll ensure the school remains fully compliant, operationally efficient, and maintained to the highest possible standards.
You'll lead and support the facilities team, oversee contractors, coordinate maintenance programmes, manage compliance systems, and ensure all school buildings, grounds, and vehicles are safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
What you will be doing
- Lead and manage the facilities team, ensuring high standards of maintenance, housekeeping, grounds care, and site presentation.
- Oversee planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across all buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities.
- Work closely with the Bursar to ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage risk assessments, COSHH records, fire safety procedures, compliance documentation, and health and safety monitoring systems.
- Coordinate and monitor contractors, service providers, and maintenance projects, ensuring quality, value for money, and timely completion.
- Carry out and support general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, minor repairs, and grounds maintenance.
- Manage contracts, budgets, purchasing, and stock control for cleaning, maintenance, and grounds supplies.
- Ensure school vehicles and minibuses are safe, roadworthy, maintained, and available for operational use, including driving duties when required.
- Oversee specialist facilities, including swimming pool management, school lettings, security arrangements, and acting as a key holder.
- Promote a safe, secure, and positive environment for pupils, staff, and visitors, while upholding safeguarding responsibilities and school values at all times.
What you'll bring
- Health and safety qualification required
- Previous experience leading or supervising a facilities, estates, or maintenance team.
- Strong practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines.
- Experience managing maintenance projects and coordinating contractors.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessments and compliance requirements.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Good IT skills and confidence maintaining records and compliance systems.
- Full driving licence required and access to own vehicle.
We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
