Job description

An established engineering organisation is seeking a Software Engineer to develop software for complex test, measurement, simulation and control systems across aerospace, defence and other advanced engineering sectors.
This is a hands-on engineering role involving software that interfaces with physical hardware, instrumentation and electronic systems. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams throughout the full lifecycle, from design and development through to integration, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain software for automated test and control systems.
  • Translate requirements into robust, maintainable software solutions.
  • Integrate software with hardware, instrumentation and communications interfaces.
  • Debug, test and resolve software and system integration issues.
  • Produce technical documentation and verification evidence.
  • Support system integration, customer acceptance testing and commissioning.
  • Maintain software quality, configuration control and release processes.
  • Collaborate with customers and engineering teams on technical challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Software development experience using at least one of C/C++, C#, LabVIEW, TestStand or Python.
  • Understanding of software design, testing and the development lifecycle.
  • Experience debugging software in a practical engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with source control and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working with physical hardware and travelling occasionally.
Desirable: Experience in aerospace, defence or other regulated industries; automated test equipment; hardware-in-the-loop systems; instrumentation; communications protocols; or software verification and validation.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be UK nationals and eligible to obtain and maintain the required UK national security clearance. Appointment is subject to relevant security checks.
Benefits
  • Annual performance-related bonus.
  • Pension with 4% employee and 8% employer contributions.
  • Family private healthcare and health cash plan.
  • 27 days' annual leave plus UK bank holidays.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Varied engineering projects and professional development opportunities.

If you enjoy developing software that interacts with real-world hardware and solving complex engineering problems, we'd like to hear from you.
